Just curious as to how howmany other's applied ! We can post back here to see if any of us receive one! Elk is my favorite game meat! I would love the opportunity to hunt one! as i bet many other member's would aswell:cool:

I did with my group.

We have for the past 3 years with no tag success after the 1st year.

It doesn't help that a successful applicant is precluded from the draw for 5 years and takes the group down to 75% tag potential.

Also a hell of a cash grab by the government with little chance of success.

We'll keep applying, just because its a chance to go hunting with good friends, but my $.02.

Nope...but I dream of elk. Realistically I'll probably never get the opportunity to hunt them but if I do I'm guessing it'll be someplace like Colorado. Dream hunt for me....

We talk about it every year but never do apply. We are in the area but non of us have ever seen one.

Out of curiosity, how many elk licenses are available ? These elk were stocked by the Rocky Mountain elk foundation about 20 years ago, gotta wonder how they've done. A few elk stocked in Suffield multiplied in a similar time period to become problem wildlife to surrounding ranchers.

Wow little less than last year but cannot complain as we need to regrow their numbers still by far!!

i still would love the chance and even if i don't get the opporunity to hunt one my money still goes to the ministry to help fund things like this!

i more than likely wont as i applied as an individual sadly no one to join me

Didn't know there were any elk left in Ontario after the bozos in the MNR had the Burwash herd eliminated. I left in 1980 for AB right after high school...........Harold

I didnt apply and havent seen any,but the neighbour says he has seen a couple bulls the past few years in different spots around WMU60

When was the Burwash herd eliminated? They were there in the mid 90s watching us shoot on the range.

The Elk range has expanded into WMU 50 west of Algonquin Park. We hear them bugle during the Moose hunt (absolutely thrilling to hear) and one was mistakenly(?) shot last season by a hunter who wandered 200M inside the western Park boundary. OMNRF hung him by the thumbs just to make an example of him.

Wow that is unfortunate he shot it :/ pretty noticeable difference but i understand how things can happen quickly. I believe i found some evidence of elk at the bottom of WMU 46 bordering somwhat close to WMU 53 A & B. I was bear hunting and on several occasion's came across dropping piles that had not resembled anything i have ever seen i was not sure if it was a moose, as i do not hunt moose (yet ) but after showing several hunters , friends & employee's of local outdoors shops a few believed it may have been elk, i dont believe i have the photo anymore i saved it somewhere and cannot find it. Hope the elk are on the rise! would be awesome to see one, i also have never seen a moose hope i may see one of them aswell!

They are on the rise for sure...... One was pushed off the highway by authorities in Ottawa last year.... Have seen tracks at my camp in 62..... And a guy at a nearby camp got the book thrown at him for poaching one..... His buddies kicked him out of camp too..... I like those guys....

From a conservation point that sounds backward, you don't need many bulls to service the cows. Lot of our elk hunting is bulls only and they have to meet an antler point criteria. Cows only come into the hunting picture when they become agricultural problems.

Comes from here analysis....... There are way too many cows in the ratio...... Although you are correction regards to the need for more cows than Bulls.....

Personally, I suspect too many bulls got poached, but I have nothing to back that up with admittedly......

Part of the Ya Ha Tinda herd. Bad news is, due to demand, it takes about 12years to get drawn there and bulls have to be 6 points.
