which Scope and which Power

My VX3 1.5-5 is surprisingly accurate to shoot @100M. I agree.

They're pretty much my favourite scope for a general purpose hunting rifle.

I have never seen a 30mm that was not laden with features, much less available in a fixed low power.

expensive but the europeans are making very good ones ...

Well thanks to everyone who made recommendations but have ordered a Zeiss Terra in 2-7 x 32 hope I will enjoy it they come with good reviews

A vote for Leopold VX-R 2x7. Amazing scope. The VX-R 1.25x4 is great too.

I like the Leupold VX-2's in 1x-4x so much I have them on three rifles.
Neat, compact, uncluttered and all the glass I can effectively use.

Was gonna say a Weaver 2.5-7 by 32 for your Model 99, mine has an old Weaver 4x on it with the snap mounts so you can also use the open sights in a pinch. I hope the Zeiss design works out for you. I looked through those the other day and was impressed but ended up buying a Nikon. No simple answers in the optics department.

My vote goes for either a Leupold FX II 4x or FX-III 6x42. Simple setups for a general hunting rig

I've got 4X Leupold scopes on a 300 Win. Mag., a 270 and a 7x57.

They work fine close up and out to 250-300 yards.

For my shooting skills if the game looks too small in the 4-power scope, it is too far away to shoot.

well range update more than happy very impressed had a couple guys with vx-3 2-7 look thru my Zeiss scope and thought it looked clearer? my thoughts as well.

A VX-3 2-7 is best used for hunting unicorn and jackalope. Since none of them exist.
