FBI Chooses New Pistol

I own sig, but if I were kitting out a dept I would give em Glocks. So cheap, easy and effective.

I didnt enjoy it because I was so damn good with a G17 9mm. There was no challenge. That it why I personally went to Sig p220 in 45 and .357. They are more fun because they are more challenging to shoot.

For the record, I know nothing of the 320, but I do know that the RFP was likely as legit as Canadas military procurement.

I thought the FBI wanted a gun that did not require the trigger to be pulled for disassembly. Either they dropped that requirement or if not, it will be interesting to see how Glock met it.

Went back and re-read the FBI requirements and see no reference to pulling the trigger for disassembly. My bad!

Now we can sit back and see what the RCMP picks - M&P or Sig 320. I have a funny feeling it won't be a Glock.

Glock has likely agreed to supply guns without the finger groves, which was in the RFP....and no there will not be a NY trigger. BATFE already uses Glock Gen4 in 40.

Now the shocker for everyone.....RCMP have made a purchase of Glock 19's for the Air Marshals.

Well, you have to figure that they'd want something that fits inthe holsterssome of themwere already wearing.

No biggie for Glock to ditch the finger grooves to get that US govt. contract. A lot of US govt. agencies already using Glock 22 and 23 like FBI, Marshals, etc.

However, the RCMP buying Glock! Earth shattering news from the agency that is one the biggest S&W customers in the world.

Have they? Their current issue is the Glock 22/23..

Smith & Wesson has been the issued weapon on the FBI from the Mid 1930's until May 1977.

Smith & Wesson has been the issued weapon of the RCMP from 1952 to the present.

In fact, there was considerable surprise among gun writers, etc when the RCMP went with the S&W in semi auto; as most every other police force was switching to Glock, Beretta or Sig Sauer semi autos.

The only true Glock is a standard 3rd Gen made in AUSTRIA....all others are trash, especially USA 4th Gen (barf)

MUST BE 3rd Gen Austria

G17/G19
G21/G30/G30S/G36
G26/G27 (night sights in ankle holster)
G20

G19 concealed carry, night sights, 15+1, Premium 147 gr. JHP +P
G21 IWB concealed, night sights, 13+1, Premium 230 gr. JHP +P
G30S IWB concealed, night sights, 10+1, Premium 230 gr. JHP +P
G27 in ankle holster, night sights, 10+1, Premium 180 gr. JHP +P

I absolutely LOVE Glock pistols.....my 3rd Gen Glock 17 was the most accurate 9mm I've ever owned, 25 yard fist sized groupings, amazing trigger re-set and break. My all time Fav the full sized Glock 21 3rd Gen (or a G21SF) but I lust for a modern Glock 30 with rail, such a beefy little power house lobbing out 230 grain hardball slugs.

I've had a few of pretty much every generation except 4th- I just keep forgetting how bad the ergos are, buy another one (or two) and end up dumping them. I'm a pretty good guy to buy a Glock from.

Yep, when the armourers are S&W fans apparently, heard that the S&W came in other brand/model submitted for trials when the RCMP had compiled their selection list which included all the factors tallied to a final score for each submitted pistol, and yet S&W still managed to come out on top. Go figure LOL

What do you base this off of? My USA Gen 4 has been great so far and everyone who's "in th know" that I've spoken to say there is no different except for the marks on it.

To all the Glock haters out there...

Glock is King!

More like Glock is the cheapest company that met all the criteria for selection. Maybe they were 5$ cheaper than the next in line. Maybe the next in line was hand fitted and garanteed 1 inch at 25 yards, but it wasn't in the selection criteria. Still think the Glock is king?

I wouldn't say they are necessarily king, but they are an outstanding duty/carry pistol.

The RCMP currently carry S&W 5946's. Who were you referring to?

That's a great step forward from the 5946. Those air marshals won't know what to do with a trigger pull under 14lb.

Hell no, nor anywhere else. The only advantage the 5946 has is it would be a better tool for beating the bad guy to death after you ran out of ammo.

I hate finger grooves. I have yet to find a grooved grip that fits my hands properly. All of my Glocks are Gen 2.

Your hands can't be any smaller than mine. Have you tried a Gen.4 G19? While I am not generally a fan of grooves for the same reason as you, I find the G19 fits very well and the Hogue finger groove grips for the S&W K frame also work well for me. Everything else has been wrong.

This is all well and good, boys and girls, but I wonder if I was the only person to pick this up....

Earlier today FedBizOpps.gov announced a contract award for the FBI solicitation for new 9mm service and training weapons. In the solicitation the FBI required (1) compact framed pistol, (1) full size pistol, (1) Man-Marker (Simunition) pistol, and (1) Inert training pistol. While many thought Sig Sauer had this one all but in the bag with their popular and highly modular P320, the award went to Glock.
While the FBI is the agency that submitted the original solicitation, it probably won’t be the only agency that adopts the new pistol. Other government entities that may purchase pistols and parts under this contract include:
United States Department of State, Bureau of Diplomatic Security
United States Marshals Service
Department of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms
United States Postal Service
United States Treasury Department
Drug Enforcement Agency
United States Capitol Police
United States Park Police
United States Department of Energy
Office of Inspector General (all Federal agencies)
United States Department of Defense
As to exactly what model(s) were awarded, we can tell you this: It isn’t something currently commercially available. One of the bigger clues about this was the requirement “Finger grooves on the frame are not permitted“, which counts out a standard Generation 4 Glock. We will have further details for you tomorrow regarding other changes.
