Thinking of buying a new Percussion bp rifle. Would like to buy one from a known Canadian maker if possible. Full wood and long range rifle would be nice. Need some help here in finding a maker North of the border.

I've researched this considerably, and really don't think any exist. There is Peter Alexander (the Gunsmith of Grenville County), a well known and respected maker of flintlock rifles who is currently active, but I don't think he makes any percussion guns. There is also John Clark (Clark Industries) but he doesn't seem to be building guns anymore. I've heard a couple other Canadian names mentioned here and there but I really don't think there are any active gun makers in Canada, specializing in traditional black powder guns.

Flintlock long guns are not considered firearms and can be bought/shipped back and forth over the US border without restriction (other than international shipping costs), but not so for percussion guns and you'd have to use an importing service.

Within Canada, probably your best bet for a percussion rifle is to find one used or buy a new T/C GPR or maybe a Pedersoli.

Taylor Sapergia in Prince George, BC does excellent work and I am pretty sure makes both percussion and flint long guns and hand guns. Your question does beg another question of how much do you want to pay for the new gun. Custom guns by individual makers begin around twice the price of commercially bulk produced guns, on up to several times more depending on what features you want.

I believe that Taylor has retired this year and is finishing up projects and wishes to work on his own for a change.

Try Ol'Flinter on this site. He builds some nice guns. Not sure what his work load or availability is as it is shooting season but you will like his work. Give him a PM.

If you can t find a PH volunteer rifle and your interest is just target shooting possibly a Pedersoli Gibbs rifle is what your looking for. They are a high quality piece and very accurate. There is also a similar style rifle custom made for sale at the muzzleloading Emporium n the States
