Why can't I find the 'right' rifle for me

I wish I lived closer as well. I have seen some of your stuff on here, usually makes me a bit envious!

She's a beauty Brian, but indeed it'd gain "character", sprouts of rust, swollen wood, etc. The environment is especially unforgiving here as you'll get salt on it too, really accelerating the process. Your Marlin wouldn't have as much issue with stock warping being a two piece, my merkel's the same the wood swells but doesn't really affect anything. You better have your irons set just right as by the end Mother Nature will have them welded in place with a seam of dark orange. I give too much character to all sorts of guns that don't deserve it here, you can too, just bear in mind nowhere is tougher on guns than here!

Ya maybe just a bit to much character. I better stick with the EW!

Indeed exactly, .375 2 1/4" is the English designation of the 9.5x57/56MS. Given where my family stems from I follow the ways of the Empire. She's an ultralight .375 carbine, settled on an 18 1/2" dodecagon barrel, 6.25lbs full titanium action except for the springs, and trigger mechanism. Wanted a .375 caliber weather impervious wand for coastal grizzly guiding, and for grizzly issues while mountain guiding.

If you ever read Marshall, he used a M1910 and switcted to a 405 Winchester because the Mannlicher kicked too much.

I would like to find a stock with a sharper angled pistol grip. More like my HS stock but a lot lighter.

I'll have to look into the M70 bottom metal... I have a gorgeous Special Run Super Grade with engraved bottom metal, but I find it gaudy and would be embarrassed to carry it afield.... want clean blued bottom metal for it.

It's all relative, I consider it mild as recoil 6.25lb 375x57 is identical to a 9.5lb .375 H&H in impulse and speed. Used to have a 7.5lb .375 Ultra Mag, that was a tad stiff on the butt end.

Been recoil training with stickhunter's rather light for chambering .505 Gibbs the last couple years on long term loan, and that more or less resets all interpretations of recoil. Even though once accustomed the .505 feels fine too, .375 Mag class recoil feels rather .308esque in comparison.

My 375-06 AI is only a bit more than my M 1910 MS was and makes for a very nice thumper.
The AI version that I have was a creation of my late Brothers and is a tad shorter and more blown out than the actual Ackley version.
Hopefully it will fill a tag this Fall.

I have vary good reasons wny I like short rifles
Besides Being easier to maneuver in thick brush As well as swamps or muskeg and snow
A shot rifle in handy in a canoe and truck as well
But best of all is the short rifle are the same length as the handle bars on my Rokon so I can maneuver around the trees and doorways wen I go off-road Haha

It was new in that photo but she don't look like that no more
I have done more somersaults and Evan rolled a pick up on that bike and it still runs like a top
I can fit both my Rokons plus wall ten ,gear and a moose in the back of a pickup and still se out the back window
I real Believe that stock fit has hardly nothing to do with it as a guy wears different jackets all the time
What is important is Environment and hunting style

I'm sitting here sifting through the EE like I do so often looking for the next potential 'perfect' rifle for me and I got to wondering how many rifles did you CGN'ERS go through before you found the one perfect all round rifle for you, or maybe your are like me and still looking.

I really thought the Win 70 Extreme Weather was going to be it for me. But the stock has a funny small pistol grip, trigger a bit heavy and the overall weight is more then I would have wanted. Nothing major but still not quite right.At least I have narrowed my chamberings down to something I 6.5 or the 270WSM.

What say you?

I wasted a lot of money on North American manufacturers and all their claim to be the end all be all of rifles, listened to a lot of the wrong people too who were always doing stuff as cheap as possible. (Not unlike the vast majority of this site)

It was not until I started getting into the higher end European stuff that things started to fit me like it should (European background) and the quality is just that much better. Fit and finish I found is of much higher quality and there are way better options from factory as most manufacturers have a custom shop and will build you a much more custom gun suited to your needs.

The only drawback is the long wait times from the Canadian importer to bring in what is on the shelf in Europe. It took me 2 years to get a Sauer 202 and have been waiting 8 months for a trigger for a steyr

Hoyt I'll send it out to test for fitment, will put it in an Xpress envelope when I get home. He's right though I hadn't considered I used my other one on the Echols / McMillan stock.
