Hi, just got a Savage mark II (troy Laundry edition ) my first rifle, it has a rail for a scope and so I need to buy a scope to aim. Any suggestions ? I was leaning towards Nikon P rim. Thanks

What are you going to be using your rifle for? That's an important question for scope suggestions. You might want to consider having an Adjustable Objective on your scope. This will allow you to keep things in focus, regardless of the distance -- assuming the scope's AO goes below 50 yards.

I'm going to be hopefully doing some prairie chicken hunting this fall, might try the 22LR for that. I'd also like to practice my marksman ship by shooting targets at 50 yards to 100 yards.

Cabellas has a sale on redfield revolution 3 x 9 -50mm which Temps me

The parralax is factory set at 100y on these scopes.

I prefer scopes with AO on my rimfire rifles.

Targets at a 100 and a 3x9 aren't a good mix. Spend some cash to get decent glass. Poor optics will give you poor performance and eye fatigue when used for extended sessions, as most rimfire shooters will do. One of my favorites is my Bushy Elite 4-16x40 on a 452 Lux.

Check out the nikon efr rimfire prostaff 3-9x40. Reliable had it on sale for $191 the other day. And it has parallax adjustment. Nice fine reticle and good glass for $200. I love mine.

Depending on how much you want to spend, I recommend one of these
Vortex Crossfire II 2-7 X 32 aprox. $200

Vortex Diamondback 2-7X35 aprox. $300

The second one has better glass but the 1st one is also very good. VORTEX has a very good warranty.
These scopes have a smaller objective lens of 32 and 35 allowing scope to be mounted nice and close to the action, thus giving you a better cheek weld.
To me it's a lot of scope for the money.

VarX II, VXII, VX2 ........... 2-7x33 or there 'bouts.
Pawn awff yer missus ring and make it like she lawst it.
Pewff, funds fer a deescent scope.

Translated to English, what 'looky is saying is:

Spend the money. Get a Leupold VX-2 in 2x-7x by 33mm Obj lens.

Abd he's right. Magnification isn't everything. Cheap scopes with high magnification are wasted on a .22 - they're too grainy. Nice clear glass at 7x trumps cheap glass at 9-12x every time.

My 452 with the above scope is one of my two primary gopher assassins.

You can put almost anything on a 22 and if you are willing to learn as you go along, upgrading at a later date won't kill you.
I have two CZ 455's and thought having the same scope on both would be an advantage. Right now the Burris 4.5 - 14 x 42's are waiting for a call up but last fall, with the parallax set at 50 yards, the power was turned down to 4.5 and that sufficed to pop the head off a grouse
I swapped that scope off the Varmint and put a 36 power Leupold on for testing purposes.
The American is currently wearing a Bushnell 2.5-16 x 42 Mil Dot. The side focus is great and if the adjustment isn't made for the next shot there is not a gopher nor grouse around that would make a complaint.
Why so much scope? Why Not? It felt like a good idea at the time! If I were going to a gopher patch the 36X would be off and the Burris back on.
Plus I did hear someone suggest using good glass . . .

Thanks for the suggestions, I'm leaning towards the diamondback. Couple people suggested the leupold VX-2, which is significantly more expensive than the diamondback

3-7/3-9 is great for hunting, but if you plan on 'target shooting' with a .22 I would have to say get any 1/2 decent adjustable parallax scope with at top end of at least 16-18x magnification. Trying to print any true precision groups at 100 or even 50 yards with low magnification like a 3-7/3-9 just BLOWS.

Even with 'cheaper' nicotine tarnished glass polished by some cigarette smoking 6 year old kid that got fired from the Nike factory in china you can see .22 holes in plain paper at 100 yards with 16-18x power... anything 3-7/3-9 not so much, I don't care if the glass is hand crafted out of some magical wizards crystal ball, still not happening...

Yes, I've target shot a friends 'higher end Leopold' at 100 yards with his .223 and I could only barely make out bullet holes if I was using those 'shoot-n-see visi-targets'.

Old scopes from centerfires make the best rimfire scope.
I've used 60yr old Lymans scopes on a variety of .22lr's with great results. Even the 2.5X All American out to 50yd was great ..targets , popcans or rabbits.
Top of the line scopes back in their day and built to last..durability plus...and batteries not required ...lol
