What to replace the 10/22 with?

I noticed Frontier Firearms has the STG on for $300! If I was looking for a fun semi-auto right now I'd buy that, just a cool gun!

Edit: Sorry, it's the PPS/50 for sale, not the STG. My mistake.

Is this the bend over and take it thread?
Only replacement for a 10/22 and butler creek is another 10/22 and butler creek...

If you disagree feel free to move to Australia

I don't really feel like running around flaunting the prohib mags...kind of partial to life on this side of the bars. Just like I didn't head out and flaunt my 858's.

No plans to visit australia in the near future either. Thanks for the post!

OP> Nothing. Now that you have rolled over and gone fetal position with this RCMP's first test of the water the RCMP now know they can proceed with their end game of disarmament with little/no resistance. Maybe if you are a good kid they will allow single shot.

Why do you feel I've rolled over? Have I said that? I want a good replacement for the 10/22. Even if we were to win this one, it'll be years before these mags come out again. I just went through this with the 858...and yes I was vocal in standing up for that fight writing letters, donating etc.

CZ 512 Tactical. High capacity semi auto .22 and awesom CZ quality. What's not to love?

On a side note, those 25 round magazines do fit the regular CZ 512 as well if wood is more your style.

The $ price tag

Marlin papoose with the 25 round promag. Very light weight package, good round capacity, take down and fits in a back pack. Makes a great fun package. Useful in many situations.

Just checked it out...the lack of a forend is a turnoff. What do you do with your forward hand? Hang on to the little nub just ahead of the mag?

Ya, that or use the mag. Its so light up front your forward hand is only really there to assist in aiming, there is barely any forward weight to hold up.

I've said it before and will say again. A (late) friend mused about 20 years ago that deep down in Ottawa is a plan for complete civilian disarmament by 2025.
That said... I have a 10-22 - it's my third. I also have some butler creek steel-lips 25s. They were purchased for pest control - gopher shooting, etc. I could do the same with 10 rd mags but prefer to load less often and shoot for longer periods when surrounded by gophers.

I survived well in New Zealand with a bunch of 10 round mags for possum and bunny shooting. There, having a 25 rd magazine AND a 10-22 changes the firearm into a "military style semiautomatic rifle" and is not permitted. A 77-22, bolt action, with the 25 rd mag IS, however, permitted in New Zealand.

It doesn't have to make sense if a majority government wants it to be. It's how we got the current firearms act. It's also how the LGR got axed.

The solution is very simple and prohibition of the mags completely unnecessary, those who have a simple PAL are free to own the mags as they cannot possibly use it in a hand gun they are not licensed to possess. Those who have an RPAL upon purchase of the offending hand gun sign a sworn statement to the effect "I shall pin or otherwise restrict the magazine capacity to 10 rounds when immediately in use with the hand gun." therefore can still use the mags as is for the 10/22 and only limit them if/when using them with the hand gun (which is never because you'd just use a regular 10-rounder). Only way to get in trouble is to walk around with a 110 drum attached to the pistol!

Does that make too much sense for the liberal mind?

This thread makes sense for people who don't own a Ruger 1022 or the RIA, but in either case please take 5min. to write to your MP and Mr. Goodale. Also call the Firearm center to voice your concerns. We can't fold so easily or the RCMP will simply move to item no.2 on the long list.

For over $800 I agree, a little steep. But at this price, I'd be tempted. I also have a soft spot for CZ's in general though.

Yeah, $684.00 is a good price. I may have to buy one. (To sit beside my 10/22 VLEH not replace it)

By the way, I don't see the OP as rolling over. All in one's interpretation I suppose.
In fact, lining up for what might be next on the bad guy's hit list is not rolling over is it?
