Just arrived home from a trip down south for the last couple weeks and while down south i made a point to go hit Cabela's in Calgary with the sole purpose to look and see if i could flesh out a Ruger BX-Trigger.

Some of you may have realized by now that i like my Ruger 10/22's.
and some of you may have noticed that i really like my Ruger 10/22 triggers.
the more astute of you may have even noticed that i really enjoy comparing stuff!

well, tonight i was in OCD Heaven!
i took apart that new BX-Trigger and compared it side by side with a stock trigger group!

now, if you arnt OCD like me let me tell you about the trigger and then you can go and be on your way.... IF however you are OCD like me stick around and ill show you some interesting differences in the triggers!

The Ruger BX-Trigger - its neat!
right at the store you are able to play with the trigger and test it out - even the packaging invites you to test the trigger, so far be it for me not to test it in the store!
nice! super light too!
i measured the weight of the pull over 20 pulls it was dead on 2.2lbs every time consistently which is a super nice weight for a 10/22!
so if you want a drop in trigger that is relatively inexpensive than this is the trigger for you!

if your not into comparing small springs and such you can leave now, from here on in we go to the OCD zone.

so, trigger pull done i was curious on how they achieved the lighter trigger.
for months now when thinking about the BX Trigger i just assumed that they had a little room set up at the ruger factory where 6 to 10 little Asian woman sat polishing trigger groups in a knitting circle. its just the mental image i had.

so i was super surprised to find that the internals where not polished or hand fit.... there accomplish the lighter trigger by changing some of the parts!

I know right! i was super excited to check out the new stuff!

so, in a nut shell the triggers are 90% the same as the normal non BX triggers.
the changes only effect the Trigger, Hammer, Sear and Disconnector.

other than those 4 parts everything is the same as the stock triggers.
i should mention i compared the BX to a 2013 and a 2014 (50th anv ed) plastic trigger and for the pics the 2013 are the ones going head to head against the BX.

so lets have a looks.
here is the line up, the left side is the 2013 and the right side is the BX.
Ruger%20BX%20Trigger%202016%20027_zpsz0ulhfsu.jpg

so as you can see from the pic, the majority of the parts are the same, down near the bottom you will see the 4 parts that differ.
lets have a closer looks.

funky right!

now lets get right up into the business.

the Sear - what the devil is going on here! the new Sear is shorter in both directions and has some totally different cuts in it!

Ruger%20BX%20Trigger%202016%20020_zpsdjwiuowm.jpg

the Disconnector - again you can see they shaved off a lot of product on the one side.

Ruger%20BX%20Trigger%202016%20016_zpsbvmekadt.jpg

The Hammer - you will notice that they changed up the seat of the hammer - its got a different catch points for where it meets up with the Sear.

Ruger%20BX%20Trigger%202016%20021_zpsutgldivy.jpg

so whats going on with the changes?
well, from what i can tell its because of the new trigger and how the parts fit into it, have a look.

Ruger%20BX%20Trigger%202016%20015_zpsuxzontai.jpg

so whats going on is this.
the new hammer sits a lot lower in the trigger body than the original ones do, a lot lower actually.
this is because they have changed some of the angles of the Sear and Disconnector and Hammer.
they changed these angles and moved where they connect AND to top it all off they changed how they sit in the Trigger.

the trigger is the really neat part - the other 3 changed parts all fit inside the new trigger and can actually be retained without the pins (!!!! i know, right!!!!) the pins are there to help with the pivot during the cycle of the system.

have a close look, you will see the inside of the trigger and the new parts fit in there into cut grooves and are retained by the plastic of the trigger.

a overview of the 2 triggers side by side with changed parts together assembled.

Ruger%20BX%20Trigger%202016%20026_zpsfxiz1zky.jpg

so ya, super neat changes.
im impressed with the trigger, more than i thought i would be.
really though, at the end of the day its no Kidd or VQ or Timney or Brimstone but for a fraction of the price its a nice little trigger!
and when i think about it..... since they are not hand polishing and fitting these triggers why are these NOT in every 10/22 that comes off the line?
money, of course, but these should really replace the old triggers.

and one last thing - new BX trigger does not come with the auto bolt release mod done to it.
when will they learn.

So wayupnorth I know you have built a few of these 10/22 over the years. I see you touched on this a bit above in the last paragraph.

my question to you is how does this BX trigger stand up to the other quality part makers Kidd , VQ, Power Customs from the aspect would you buy this BX kit or just skip it and using the big names in aftermarket parts.

all my past 10/22's I used PC or Kidd parts.

There is a reason the Kidd triggers cost more than a stock 10/22.
Cause they are worth it.

Some people can't afford to dish that out for a trigger but they still want a better trigger, that is we're the BX comes in.

If I was at the range and asked by a fella who had the beginnings of a 10/22 build what he should do I'd say the following.
If u wanna go cheap, get the BX.
If your broke and can tinker get some sand paper, jb weld and some polish and read online how to DYI.
If u wanna go cheap but good quality get the VQ guts and do it yourself.
If u want a nice trigger that will make you love to shoot your gun and have $200 than get a Brimstone tier 1(exchange rate and he supplies the trigger group).
If your building a gun for you that you plan to use for years to come and you have the money to spend get a Timney or Kidd 1 stage.
If you are building the best gun possible with the plans to casturate gophers surgically from 50m than go for the holy grail, Kidd 2 stage.

Keeping in mind that the DYI and the VQ (PC, TI, ect) you need to learn the trigger inside out, not everyone wants to invest the time and brain storage on that skill set, than go straight to the drop in's.

Only thing I hate about my KIDD 2 stage triggers is after shooting the guns with them, all my other guns triggers that I was happy with prior kinda feel like crap after.

So what happens to the Ruger BX if you apply polishing, lighter springs, &c. to it?

Does it get dangerously touchy if you tinker?

the contact points are different..... i dont know if you would want to get much lighter on a non benchrest gun - a strong wind while out shooting gophers may shoot your gun for ya!

Only thing I hate about my KIDD 2 stage triggers is after shooting the guns with them, all my other guns triggers that I was happy with prior kinda feel like crap after.

agreed.
but you wouldnt want to run it on a blaster i dont think.
2 stage on a blaster?
negative.

you want a quick short travel single stage when your blazing.
