Interesting that you say that mike.
Right from the get-go the Mauser civilian match rifles (not the military trainers) always had the ability to mount optics or iron peep sights as well as the original irons.

This is not always the case with it's main competitor, the 'superior' Winchester Model 52.

When this rifle was new(1935-36) it cost $88.00 US . The Colt 1911 was $25.00 and a regular Cooey type .22 was $5.00 where have the prices gone since then?
 
That's is a superb rifle and in pristine condition. I love the older rim fires. My 2 go to rim fires are my 1954-58 mossberg 146ba and my 1975 anschutz match 64.my newer rim fires gather dust. The old Annie out shoots them all and the mossy is light accurate and fun with irons. I swear the metal is much better on these old guns.
 
These rifles have a very nifty action: the bolt is offset from the bore centreline so that the firing pin goes down the centreline of the bolt and they have an external claw extractor, similar to a centrefire Mauser.

Yes sir you are very correct.
This important fact was not lost on some future firearms designers too.
A Mr Nekemis Sirkis, an Israeli Olympic rifle competitor and former army sniper was commissioned by Kimber to provide advice on a top end rimfire rifle.
Henceforth the resulting Kimber Super America was kind of based upon this older German rifle.
