Just wondering what everyone else is seeing for powder pricing; I'm really starting to think the retailers are gouging.

I was in the U.S. and Varget was $26.95/lb, so around $35 CDN. Even with shipping and duty, that would put retail pricing here around $39/lb, but I'm seeing $57/lb and up in most cases.

It's increased by 30-40% over the past 18 months, and yet the powder 'shortage' no longer exists.

I can still buy a box of factory .30-06 or .308 for $25, and with the increase in powder and bullet costs I'm not seeing much of a savings.

Is it just me, or are some of the prices getting out of line?

Just whining....

I think it's due to the current stock being bought at the higher, 'harder to get' wholesale value. My LGS has better prices than most but I bet it never goes back down. Depressing for sure when you see your old pound case with the price tag of $32.99. And I have only been reloading for 10 years or so.....
I am looking at $49 lb for most. Still have yet to ever see Ramshot anywhere.

It's all about offer and demand. Stop buying powder, powder stocks go up and prices go down. Now we've been short on powder for so long that people are still buying. I'm in the market for bulk IMR 4064 myself. As long as we're catching up on the shortage prices are going to stay high. Once everyone is caught up in their personal stockpile, retailers are going to see more powder on their shelves, then prices will drop.

The dollar only has so much to do with it. Ordering from the States will cost you an arm and a leg in shipping, local retailers know that too well... I'm down to my last pound of 4064, can't hold on much longer, will likely have to bite the bullet and replenish my stock at well over $40 per pound.

higgensons seems to be fully stocked and most of their powder is running below 40.00 a pound

Its starting to creep back down again. Back before the insanity of $50 powder there was a nice little lull of $160 a keg pricing and 110 if you knew where to look. Before that there was $45 powder. Before that it seems to me there was a lot of mid 20s. These things have an ebb and flow and what goes up, inevitably comes down.

Is this retail or buddy pricing?

X-Reload has Varget at $35.99 right now. You need to create an account and enter your PAL info in order to see their selection of powder and primers, but it's worth the trouble. I bought an 8lb & 4lb jug of Titegroup when they had their sale a couple of weeks ago and averaged under ~$24.50/lb. They have 1lb'ers of Titegroup in stock right now at $28.97

What's shipping like to BC.

It was $38 shipping via Loomis for 1 x 8lb jug Titegroup, 1 x 4lb jug Titegroup, and one set of Dillon dies. It would have only been ~$30 by Canada Post, but I didn't want to take a chance because of the possible strike. They also do not charge PST, so that savings pretty much off-sets the shipping costs.

As others have said look at Higginson's. If you and a couple buddies go together on an order over 21 lbs. there is no shipping fees to major centres. I have done that a couple of times now and just drive in to Edm. to pick it up. I have to go there for other things anyway and you can lessen the hurt of $52/lbs powder

Turns out X-Reload had the best deal on IMR 4064, $289 for 8 lbs. Purolator shipping to Alberta was $34, so to justify the shipping I had to order a whole bunch of other stuff. Whatever helps me sleep at night...

Good point, as Canada Post doesn't accept smokeless powder as it's a "dangerous good". Their website estimates shipping cost by courier and Canada Post, and let's choose either option when you check out. I did another order of Tightgroup from them last year and only paid for delivery by Canada Post. Can't remember who actually delivered it though lol

X-Reload would not have shipped the powder by Canada Post , courier is your only option.

That is a good price for an 8 lber these days. I am going to have to register on their site so i can have a look at what they have in stock
