Hi all. I bought a nib 527 last week (actually bought two). I love this rifle for so many reasons. But I have one issue, I've fired Chinese Russian and Czech surplus ammo through it. All work well, but seem to be very "tight" when chambering, and at times difficult to extract the casing. This is the case with both rifles, so I am assuming it's ammo specific. My questions are for those who have the 527, did the chamber loosen up over time? And do you recommend a quality hunting round that cycles well for this rifle? Thanks so much.

It's my understanding the the lacquer coating applied to steel cases to protect from corrosion makes them oversized enough to stick in non-military chambers.

You really cannot expect (or want) your chamber to loosen up. Maybe an SKS is in order for surplus ammo blasting. :)
 
I never shot surplus ammo out of my CZ rifles... just handloaded quality brass... but I suspect that SC is correct and the lacquered cases are the problem.

Sc I never expected, it was advertised as a rifle that shot surplus ammo well. It's a good round for my kids to start out with from a .22. So not looking for your sks, but thanks. Makes sense about lacquered ammo.
 
The lacquer coating is inconsistent and does cause feeding issues. The rifle will work(and well) with surplus. Cycle the bolt like you mean it and it works quite well. The Hornady hunting stuff seems to be far more consistent in the lacquer coating if that helps.
 
I won't say this is everyone's problem, but I've noticed a lot of extractor wear from using steel surplus ammo. I stopped using it and reload my own.
 
I also read somewhere the CZ527's with the factory altered bolt handles have an M on the left side of the receiver 527M....not verified.....Harold
 
I have the same issues with extraction with mine when using lacquered steel surplus ammo. It's that lacquer coating that increases the size of that case. Thus the extraction issues.
 
Chinese .223 surplus has hard primers, too hard for my 527 to function properly. I have in the past replaced the primers with commercial primers, but the end of the day you might just as well buy quality ammo and have done with it. There is plenty of choice.

Some lacquered cases seem to weld themselves in. If you let the rifle cool down I've found them easier to extract. Mine likes the Hornady SST as well, but i wish they were brass cases. I don't understand while they make the packaging so needlessly large?

Agree .... wish the SST came in brass cases. Price wise it's inline with the brass PRVI and S & B stuff.
