Hey guys.

Thinking about picking up a 12 gauge pump for bush use and was wondering if anyone had any advice
for me on what I could get for under $800 ? I've heard there are some models and makes to watch out for
and other than an old Winchester I had years back that finally died (RIP buddy ;-)) I don't have a lot of
experience buying shotties.

Thanks in advance - and apologies if this has already been covered in another thread ;-)

So when you say bush use, do you mean just packing around, deer hunting, chicken, turkey? What exactly are you going to use it for?

800 buys you almost anything out there in a pump action. Some will recommend finding a used Remington 870 wingmaster, however, they don't generally come threaded for chokes.

For a bush gun, you don't want a fancy looking gun anyway, so by that logic, I think an excellent choice is from site sponsor corwin arms, the turkish made, multi barrel bulldog:

this will run you under 400. However, some of the choices are sold out.
With this one, you have room in your budget for one of their 18.5" 12 gauge folding single shots. These are a fantastic value at around $180.

I bought a Benelli Nova was 600$ brand new and I beat that thing, put it through everything and it works like a charm. The forend pump is a little sloppy but it's a beast and always works.

That is a toss up between the Browning BPS Stalker, Benelli Super Nova or Nova if the comfortec stock and the stock shims mean nothing to you and you want to save some money. A new Wingmaster is a lot more expensive going north of $1000 plus they have a gloss finish stock which will look terrible after the first scratch you get in it.

I can't add more to this, most of the best have been mentioned, my list would be, in this order; Benelli Supernova/Nova(depending on whether the Nova will you), Browning BPS stalker, or used Ohio made Ithaca 37 waterfowl.

I believe that one is far better off to purchase a used high quality made gun than a brand new poorer quality made gun.
My suggestion in a pump would be a used Wingmaster.....even if one had to pay $ 60 or $ 70 dollars to have the choke opened , a budget of $ 800 gets a quality firearm and quite a bit of ammo.

I love my Benelli supernova. Been hunting with it for 3 seasons now and I have never experienced any issues with it.

It's tough to say without a little more clarity on what exactly a "bush" gone is and does. But from what I've looked at there are quite a few nice guns. The Rem 870 and Mossberg 590 have proven almost indestructible so those would be my suggestions, specifically the marine coated versions to withstand the elements as it gets lugged through the bush.

i picked up a used wingmaster('71 vintage by barrel stamp and s/n) from a gunshow for $215 recently.
i stripped it down, glass blasted it and then gave it a good 'ole dump in the parkerize tank.the stock i stripped the varnish(it was missing in many places)and applied a couple coats of tung oil.

the ithaca 37 is nice too.a bud has one (bottom eject is pretty cool).he picked it up cheap also.

my advice is check out the gunshows and if you see something nice "talk turkey" and get a deal.
if it needs some TLC and you're handy then refinish it yourself-if not a gunsmith can do the work for you.
