C96 Broomhandle barrel re-line

C96 pistols don't have a barrel, per se. The entire upper receiver is a single contiguous unit. The best way to "rebarrel" a C96 is to cut off the original barrel and then bore out and thread the receiver so a new barrel can be installed. Otherwise your only real option is to seek a new upper receiver for the gun.

Not so. There is a service available for C96/ M1930 relining to 7.63x25 by a registered machinist and gunsmith with 30 years experience - with all work done in Canada. You end-up with as-new chamber and bore (.308" diameter 6 grooves). The liner features hammer forged rifling. Re-barreling is also available - to either 7.63x25 or 9mm. Prohib (12.2) broomhandles (Bolos and 1920 conversions) can be re-barrelled to restricted only. PM me for details.

How is the rebarrelling from prohib to restricted done? I assume the entire barrel is cut and replaced? (PM sent)

The normal approach is to cut off your existing barrel just forward of the end of the chamber and rebarrel/ rechamber the gun (to 7.62x25 or optionally 9x19, 9x23 or 9x25 mauser).

If, for some reason, you wanted to keep the the original barrel intact (say, to preserve a special barrel inscription or whatever) then relining to a restricted-only length is possible and an extra shroud would be added to the muzzle end to bring the liner up to the full barrel diameter for that length (for example a shroud for the last bit - going from 4" in length to 4.25, or 5.5 inches or whatever is required. This still allows re-registration to restricted only because the barrel is fully rifled to 4.25+ inches
