Lock-N-Load® OAL Gauge Straight who uses it?

I have one. Great tool! But, I do take multiple measurements to be sure of accuracy. It can be inaccurate because of what it's made from. It could have been made totally of aluminum. That plastic rod doesn't give the greatest confidence in "feel" hitting the lands. And sometimes, the bullet "sticks" to the bore opening. Then you need to retrieve it and take your measurement. I use it for 2 calibres and 4 rifles.

Like I said, it's a great idea, but it could have been made a lot better.

I have one. Used/use it a ton. I would't load without that a tool. Why guess as to where the lands are. I have tried the fired case method and whatever else anyone wants to recommend. The oal tool and cases are the best buy in case measuring.

You must have a newer or more recently manufactured version. Older ones are all metal.

I bought mine a few months back to use with my RPR, then had a machinist tap a fire formed case rather then the hornady case. bought the head space comparator kit as well and learning that. on youtube, search "hornady loader" he is Hornady! with all his videos relating to hornady products, he helped me a bunch setting this up.

Bought a year ago to load barnes tsx and ttsx's. Works great, except for on my Savage 243... cant figure out why i get 50 thou variance in measurements... but love it otherwise.

One of if not most used specialty tools.

Advice:
Use a shaft on the muzzle side (I use a carbon hollow shaft from my RC) to allow pushing the bullet back and forth till you get that right touch on the land. I usually get 1 thous variance with 3 measure per bullet. Measure 3 bullets 3 times, usually get 2 thous variance. If not measure several more.

Buy a tap from eBay, got mine for 6 bucks USD. Make your own modified case from fire formed case, better than HDY one thanks to fire form. Brass is soft, really easy to drill/tap.

Remeasure after 1000rnds. For my TRG 22, 308 Win, after 8lbs Varget, avg 43.5-44gns ->1280 shots the throat eroded ~20 thous (could be from diff batch of SMK, doesn't hurt to remeasure, takes couple of minutes)

Mine is plastic shaft, doesn't matter, bullet touches the land, don't need metal shaft as not jamming bullet. Prefer metal but not needed, HDY knows where to cut corners.
