Well the 6.5-300 finally arrived after a long wait, its a Mark V Outfitter RC, so far so good, fit and finish is excellent, shoulders like a dream, the new LXX trigger reminds me of a Timney Calvin Elite, breaks like glass, I was a little concerned with the color of the stock in the pictures I looked at but once I opened the box it's darker than I thought and its growing on me.........

The factory range report produced a .70" 3 shot group using Barnes 127gr LRX, MV was 3531/3548/3551, a little better than the advertised 3531 fps, average of 3544 fps

I mounted a Leupold VX3i 4.5-14x40 CDS 30mm with Talley low lightweight mounts, The gun itself weighed 7lb3.8oz a little more than advertised (6lb12oz) , after mounting the scope it weighed 8lb5.7oz, overall I'm really pleased with the rifle, now to get to the range to see if it will shoot as good as advertised.

This has zip to do with your new rifle, but..

That super deluxe, beautiful rifle comes in that svelte little box, and a piece of crap Ruger American comes in a giant monster of a box. Makes no sense!

I want one of those, by the way :)

Half a pound over advertised weight is something they should address. Looks like a very nice rifle though. Let us know when you get it to the range!

I had an opportunity to handle this particular rifle yesterday and to say I was impressed is an understatement.
The fit, finish and quality of workmanship would rival a custom build.
The action is very smooth and balance is excellent for a longer barrelled rifle.
Having looked it over closely I would buy one without hesitating..

Got Mine last week in an rc accumark, Loaded it with federal 215 primers, 91.5gr of us869 and Barnes 127 gr LRX bullets, groups averaged about 3/4" at 200 yards.

Once upon a time, according to the Sierra manual a few editions ago, a 6.5-300 Weatherby held the 1000 yard benchrest record. Your rifle should be a dandy hunting rifle, particularly if used in open country, where it can stretch its legs.

madashell Wonder what the barrel life would be on this fine rifle ?[/QUOTE said:
I spoke to a few Gunsmiths about barrel life and the first thing they asked is how are you going to use it ? is it a hunting rifle ? or a Benchrest rifle ?

If you abuse it at the range I'm sure you could shorten the barrel life up pretty quick, especially with overbore cartridges like the 6.5-300, but I'm pretty sure I wont wear a barrel out in my lifetime......and if I do barrels are cheap in the scheme of things, Ill have a new one installed !

I do like going to the Range but I usually have 3-5 rifles when I go and just shoot a 3 shot group and switch rifles so I ensure I don't overheat the barrel on any of my rifles and they are well cooled before the next group I shoot.

Yeah, I figured under heavy use the barrel might last a couple range sessions ... LOL.

Typical hunting use bet you get your money's worth.

Nice looking rifle WF and an interesting caliber !

Neat cartridge but why not get a 26 Nosler? Same ballistics and in a shorter, beltless casing. JMO

Belted cartridges have worked just fine for the last hundred years, no feeding issues with Weatherby cases either, unlike those short fat ones ;-)
Besides that Weatherby Mark V Rifles aren't chambered in those short fat cartridges !
