Are the Ruger #1 International RSI's worth $2026 ??

I noticed that Epp's has half a dozen of them in stock in my favourite medium calibre: 6.5x55

I have to be honest, I have never owned a #1, but have been longing for one in a 'tropical' calibre.

I am sitting on 500+ rounds of commercial 6.5x55 and need a decent rifle to shoot it. I was close to buying an RSI in 7x57, but this would be just as nice.

What is your take on the price and Ruger QC? My last Ruger, a 10/22 takedown, was a big 'ol pile of poo.

Second question: will my spare Leupold VX2 1-4x20 scope fit it? And, what rings to use?
 
As much as I love rugers, and the #1, I couldn't swallow spending that on a number one....... They are beautiful well made rifles and no comparison to a $380 10/22......

If you get it, you will like it though..... It requires two same height Ruger rings that will come with the rifle....... And yes, your scope should fit..... If you need measurements pm me, I have a #1 in 257 Roberts I can measure for you....

Not sure if he has it listed still but I believe Hoytcanon had a 7x57 for sale in an m77 rsi....... I think he wanted somewhere around $1500 for it.......and he said it was mint (which means it is mint).... That would be the way I would go, but it's your dollars....

I agree...... For a reloader, a #1 should be in something a little "different"..... Do you know what the wood is like on the Epps ones?..... Last I recall he doesn't have pics on his site......

Red pads have the best wood if you can find one.......
 
No, I'd be taking a chance with an Epp's rifle. Having said that, my last rifle I purchased from Epps', a T3 Battue in 30-06, came with a beautiful walnut stock... nicer than my last Sako's stock.
I hear that #1's are taking a dive with regard to wood quality, but I can't confirm that to be universally true.
 
Not the best pic...... But here is my bib red pad the day it arrived....... Still have to scope it and get a better pic..... Not an RSI..... It's a 1-B...... But representative of the wood quality on the red pads I suppose..

It's very nice...... I wouldn't call it exceptional by any means...... The wood on my RSM puts it to shame....... But it would be considered very nice wood, will just have to get a better pic........ The 400-450 ne clay has on his site is crazy nice.....

Ok, now it's bugging me...... Will get a better pic..... Lol
 
hey, no worries, I can tell it's a nice rifle. I just want an idea of the type of grain pattern these things sport. Clay's rifles are very nice, but I thought they look a bit plain, especially for an RSI.

Took a measurement of the rings for you...... Outside to outside is 3.5"...... Inside to inside is 2 3/4"....

You may need a 4BO ring in the front position with the VX-2 1-4...

Wood on new production No.1's tends to be on the bland side, but there are exceptions. The bluing and fit & finish are as good as ever IMO.

They are an exceptional rifle for carrying/handling with good hunting accuracy. I have owned a couple dozen of the No.1 International's, but I am down to just two at the moment. $2000 for the rifle? Well that hurts, but in mid-2016 the comparitive value is exceptional and I doubt that you would be unhappy with the purchase. If you are not in a rush, you might wait for a good used one to pop-up.

PrairieGunTraders has one listed for $1900 iirc. I just got my first #1 a few months ago and I like 'em. Getting close to $2000 like'em? That's a tougher pill to swallow.

Agreed. However, the calibres I shoot are unlikely to crack any tangs, regardless of the grain detail! lol

The 1-4 has a short mounting length and to properly position the scope for eye relief the front ring often ends up over, or in front of, the objective lens... which I personally don't like.
