Sorry if this is not the place but i figure other's look at the thread may have the same question

i have tried to look it up but cannot find a good definition for what a controlled deer hunt is ?

Do you need a guide or somone to take you through the area ? this is thhe only thing i heard about controlled deer, little embarassing but i dont know anyone who has done a controlled deer hunt. Thanks!

Antlerless season is bow only. Controlled is shotgun/black powder and you are open to shoot antlered. Where I hunt you apply for one of two controlled hunts. Either you hunt the first week of Nov or the first week of Dec.

In southern Ontario there are wildlife management units that have the controlled hunt. The units allow deer hunting only with a special permit. The MNR controls how many deer hunters are allowed to hunt. Hence the name. Also centrefire rifles are not allowed. Only shotguns, muzzle loaders, and bows are used at different times. Each unit has specific rules on what weapons are used. Also it is for residents only. Non-residents are not eligible for the lottery. You figure out what unit you want to hunt in, and each week has a specific code. You enter that info either online or on the phone and if you get a permit in October you then go out and buy your deer license and you are good to go.

If you download the 2016 hunting regulations, the information about the controlled hunt starts on page 81.

Partly right. Some wmu's allow you to shoot a buck or doe and some wmu's you can use a muzzleloader only.

I hope the info I posted helped you Kondor. We were all new once and there is no such thing as a silly question. I see you are listed as being in South Central Ont. For regular gun season you should have a good chance at getting a deer in 53A or the southern tip of 46. Those are my 2 areas I hunt for the gun season.

My group got a few does in 46 last November. This year I have property that I bought recently in a area for the controlled hunt. I will have 3 weeks of deer hunting :) I hear you on the combo trigger locks - they are the only way to go. What I do is simply lock the firearm with a trigger lock once we get back in to town. Once I leave in the morning it is encased in a gun sock and no lock. It is being transported, not stored. As I said the southern tip of 46 should be good. I hunt further north and we saw 6 does in about 4 hours last year. I hope this year will be just as good. I also used "Buck Commander fire in the hole" liquid bait on top of my bait piles. The deer were all over it like white on rice.

I will definitely have to check out that buck commander liquid. I have just started making a new one based partly off a video i saw, alot of salt & sugar and soak the corn in it lol, testing now. Check my other thread "What causes a buck to do this " And check out one buck i have for an archery season area haha
