Anyone going after black bears this August? What are you using to hunt them with?

If my buddy can get the time off work we're heading up for a week hunt camping out of my truck. I'll be bringing my 45 / 70 sxs and possibly a black powder gun

I might. I dunno. If I do, my gun choice will either be a BRNO ZG-47 in 30-06, an SKS, a Remington 870 w/slugs or a Tavor. Or maybe a Troy PAR in 308 if IRG's shipment of these comes in within the month. A friend of mine is setting up a bait a few miles from town so I might hit it with him if we get a few days off together.

Using Good ol .30-30 or shot gun with slugs.... Eh at 50 feet away up a tree!!!!
And used fryer oil with dog food!!!! And bear bomb it's guaranteed!!!!
And it goes like this ..... Bang ..... Flop .... Done!

Spring turkey hunt, august bear hunt, I wish my province would open up some of these non traditional hunting seasons

If time permits, I am going to take a couple days to spot n' stalk the berry patches... berries are not good this year though. Will probably carry a Ruger M77-RS MKII 7X64 Brenneke with 173 grain Torpedo's.

I thought you were a bow hunter Hoyt lol.

I normally hunt 2 weeks in September but I changed it up so a Co worker could get the time to go back to his home country.
No cabin this time. Base Camp will be my truck. Won't be the most comfortable hunt but it's still a week out of town.
I was just up in matachewan and the berries were only ripe on high rock islands. Lots of green berries though. I'll have to do some driving around to find berry patches where I'm going to hunt. I've used the same bait sites every September but the last 6 years

I am a bowhunter, but by the Aug 15th bear opener I will have shipped my bow to BC for a September hunt there... so my only options are a plethora of Ruger rifles... good catch though. ;)

I have to wait until the middle of September but I'll take a cruise by some local berry fields and see if I can't stuff one in the deep freeze. Of course, it'll either be Wagner time or 300 H&H hour. Time will tell.

I'll be taking my new-to-me ruger m77 mkii ultralight in 308 and my bow. Only tag I have left is my additional tag for wmu 38. Should be able to spot a few in some of the big berry patches.

Hoping to get out once my ankle heals up, depending on my mood I'll bring my Rossi 92 .44 magnum with some 265 grain jsp's at about 2000 fps, my Sharps .45-70 with some 300 grain Barnes jsp spire points or 405 grain lead, shotgun with slugs or maybe even 85lb recurve and some single bevel 300 grain heads. I gotta say I love that the tag is good from spring to fall, I wish it was for Turkey as well. There's tons of bears out there, good hunting to all!!!

I don't care about the hide unless it's a unique color. I've taken some bears with gorgeous fur but I want the meat. I keep the skulls and claws. I'm thinking my buddy isn't going to get the time off and my wife doesn't want me to go alone. She's worried about my well being. Considering I'm insured for a million plus what ever cssa and ofah and work throw in I guess she loves me.
I've decided I'm taking my 45/70 and 458 wm. Just need to get some molasses and I'm good to go

I didn't think 38 had an additional tag. I'm pretty sure that's where I'll be hunting. The maps should show roads to make it easier

google earth is helpful in most of the wmu, but some newer cuts and access roads have been created since the last updates. No shortage of bears up that way though. I've got some massive berry patches in the back of my mind that should hold a few nice bears.

They logged a lot around where I hunt. Hopefully their spraying last year hasn't killed off the berries. They used a helicopter to spray
