Need some help building an AR: It's alive!!

Okay that's what I was thinking. Will buy a new one today. Assume the DPMS backplate should work well for me?

Also thinking of picking up the magpul bev block for barrel installation. Worth it? Or just use my receiver vice block?

DPMS backplate should be fine.

Never used a bev block so can't comment on whether it's worth it or not...I use my vice block with no issues.

Bought a cheap torque wrench at Canadian tire for $30 and used my vise block...went pretty easy. The DPMS back plate was a bit better on the buffer tube rotation issue, but not as much as I hoped. With the castle nut finger tight, it could still rotate. I cranked the castle nut down and it seems solid though.

You are supposed to notify the Firearms Centre within 30 days (IIRC) of changes. In the meantime, take it to the range and run a few hundred rounds through it. Enjoy and don't spend too much time shooting off the bench. They are best enjoyed "runned and gunned":p.

Took her out for some range time today. Those are my groups with Aguila ammo and crappy range rests at 100y.

Definitely felt my trigger pull needs to be lighter. The ALG trigger came with a lighter hammer spring that I will install to hopefully reduce that. Another thing that I didn't like is the trigger reset. There is an audible twang on reset that feels and sounds kinda cheap. Is this normal or specific to my trigger?
 
Switched out the hammer spring for the purple spring included with the ALG trigger...big difference. Took about 60 seconds too....definitely loving how easy it is to work on this.

I think the twang that I hear is my buffer spring reverberating from the trigger reset...

jp enclosed spring buffer set would solve that

They are well engineered aren't they.

I don't mind the boing...the first C7 I fired went boing, all of them did if I remember correctly.
 
I will give some grease on the buffer spring a go. The springy sound bugs me, and I've definitely lost sensitivity to spending money on this gun, but I'm not quite to the point where I can drop $250 to satisfy a minor OCD thing...

Just bought the VG6 Epsilon brake from CTC...stoked to try that out. Looks amazing.

As pointed out the silent spring is the way to go, however there are a number of standard springs on the market that are shaped or modified to minimize that annoying sound. Personally I feel a shooter will get use to it and will not even notice it when training or shooting in competition or CQB. When bench shooting or general plinking it becomes more noticeable when your consintration is lower.
