Someone who will not be named, seems to have overtightened the knobs on my C79 Elcan mount, mounted on a rifle and now the knobs seem to be stripped and cannot be loosened. Anyone with experience with this can help?

I am guessing they are the overmolded plastic knobs with a brass insert.
Cut the plastic part of the "wing nut" off with a utility knife. You can then back off the inserts with a pair of pliers or vicegrips.

File the ends of the bolts to remove the peening and replace the plastic junk with decent nylock nuts (over a washer) torqued to 25 inch pounds.

Cheap easy fix that leaves you in a better place than a the factory pushed out.

Sounds like a FCS/EO tech problem :p

Seriously do what Gunnerlove said, but you can probably buy new ELCAN metal knobs.

Thanks for this

Thanks for this
Knobs on mine appear to be solid anodized aluminum. If not readily available from one of our site sponsors such as Nordic Marksman I would go to a fastener supplier and purchase a helicoil kit that matches the screw thread size and helicoil it back to size as there's lots of meat in the knob---Dieseldog!

Thanks but mine appear to be the plastic type Gunner mentioned.
It's an older one, like 1992 ish or so
