CSSA & CSAAA Join to start legal action- Ruger 10/22 mags

1.) Regarding the long time frame and the correct course of action to take when something (legal) like this occurs? Well all I can tell you (from personal experience) is choose an expert in that field who has practical experience and significant wins in said field of practice.

Now the CSSA as I understand it is choosing to use a lawyer well versed in Canadian Firearms Law and it is that persons expert opinion as to what course of action need be taken, not actually the CSSA's, (I would believe to be correct?).

1.) It has been pointed out that a class action suit will take years to even get certified much less get to court. I'm very curious as to why the CSSA chose this route.

2.) It seems to me that what we need is for someone to have their mags seized. Even if they aren't charged we could all rally round to financially support their court case to have their property returned. I believe that would establish case law and settle this issue.

2.) I've read of a couple cases here in BC over the past couple of days (one fellow on our BC Jeep Club "BCJC" had his magazines confiscated by the RCMP, but was not charged) and I advised him to take it up with the CSSA ASAP.

Finally to all those supporting the CSSA by becoming a member and/or for donating, well done people. Lets hope this cause ignites a flame that see's all Canadian firearms enthusiasts band together for a better future with common sense regulations for all.

Cheers D

Do the mags fit into the ruger pistol? If they do then I don't know how you can fight it. It's the law. Don't get me wrong, I want more freedoms and less laws around gun ownership. I just can't see how you can fight something that is written into law. Pistol mags bigger the 10 are prohibited no?

Yes they fit BUT the law clearly states that the magazine capacity applies to what the magazine was originally designed or manufactured for. Most hicap 10/22 magazine patents supercede the Ruger Charger patent by decades. Therefore they were originally designed and manufactured for the rifle and being rimfire the capacity is unregulated. According to the RCMP re special bulletin 72 it doesn't matter what the mags fit and function in. Now according to the RCMP it suddenly does and tens of thousands of Canadians are now criminals because they suddenly changed their minds on over 1.25 million legally imported magazines that have been in use for over 35 years. What it all adds up to is using grey area to bully law abiding citizens with realistically petty but consequently very serious legal flip flopping that is designed to manufacture criminals out of Joe Taxpayer and his kids. Its disgusting, slimy, lowlife degenerate policing and it is very much arguable in a court of law.

Well said. Their current behavior is based on a very spurious interpretation of regulations that have been in place for decades. It's extremely underhanded and deliberately so.

and, its not really a pistol/handgun. Really its just a 10/22 rifle with the barrel and butt stock sawed off. yes it can be fired in one hand and yes it is indeed classed as one, but its not like there is a fully separate pistol that takes the same mags.

we know its just straight up BS that they think they can get away with due to the current Federal Regime.

I agree the law is confusing. On one hand it says any magazine the is manufactured to be interchangeable is limited to 10 rounds. Then a little later they say what the magazine was intended for determines the capacity. So it makes sense why this is such s confusing issue for sure.

But as stated its the RCMP using a grey area to bully the issue knowing they are politically backed. It's such an odd time to change their interpretation as well. It's not like the pistols just came out..

Just so I understand the logic in all this - and I'm not going to comment on the timelines of the patents, etc.

The RCMP is Ok with lawful users running pistol mags in their rifles as an intended loophole, but putting a rifle mag in a pistol is not? Keeping in mind that the velocity of the rounds out of the pistol will be inherently lower because of the barrel length and the set up less accurate for the same reason.

Wow, let's cut some budget from the RCMP and put it into mental health or mandatory housing for the homeless. We will save many more lives in the long run. And to make it easy for everyone, let's keep the limit to 30 for everything. I will gladly pin my drums, etc to 30 if it means I can use standard AR mags.

I want to donate $100.00 but a little unclear on who to send too.
If everyone on here donated just 25 bucks each we would have a massive war chest.

Sounds so easy, right? This thread already has 20 thousand+ views. Wonder if this action has received 20k donations yet? Think about if each member, even just put in 10 bucks (that's a lot of cash, but not really, even)

Just what is it going to take, before guys all start rolling their sleeves up??

Very good points.

In any case, a huge thanks to those that donated anything, especially the new people. Amazing. :)

$100 donated.
Letters were sent last week.

I don't own any 10/22 rifles nor the mags, but our enemies are taking our measure, and a weak and divided community will not stand a chance. The battle is only beginning. A well funded organization is our first line of defence.

Let's keep this thread active by posting our donations.
