Thanks everyone for the kind and supportive words. I am indeed a lucky man to have such a woman and and two beautiful daughters in my life! In the past I have usually done (somewhat) epic backpack hunts, but this would be quite difficult with the two girls at the age they are. Fortunately there has been enough rain to get my boat up into sheep country. We had 13 ewes and lambs within 100 yds of the walltent! After two days of nice weather and loafing about camp I decided to take a look 'over the hill'. A short boat ride and an hour climb and I could see sheep! Through the spotting scope I was just able to tell they were rams; at least 7. A couple hours later and I arrived where I had seen them, but they had moved on a considerable distance. Anyway, successful stalk (I think I need a rangefinder), an hour crawling closer in the rocks (and pouring rain) and field dressing as the sun goes down ..... Packed out ribs and quarters bone in as I was traveling light. Fog rolls in, pretty paranoid about getting lost! Fall asleep while resting in my pack a couple times. Its starting to get dark here again! Dark, foggy, raining, 50 yds or less visibility I finally hunkered down and miserably slept under my siltarp for a couple hours. What a relief to wake up and see the fog gone! I am still aching all over but I got back to camp safe and sound at 9:30 in the morning. I really didn't expect to get a ram; but always thankful when I do.
Cheers and happy hunting!
