Troy PAR range report

You got an easier way than posting to photobucket then pasting links? Because I ain't got time for that crap no more.

Actually become a gunnut and pay for membership. I upload directly from my computer

i load
16.3 gr imr 4227 with cci primers and 150 gr fmj
cheap and accurate for plinking

For an accuracy load try 20.2gr of A1680 under a 155gr A-max or 17gr of LiL'Gun under the same bullet. I set them to 2.2" coal and both do sub moa from two out of three of my 300BLK rifles.

For a subsonic load try 6.3-6.5gr of Trailboss under your 150gr FMJ. It won't cycle a semi auto but works well in my bolt action and should work well in the PAR.

Thanks for the formulas
I will give them a try

Thanks for the range report and pix! If you don't like the trigger it can be replaced as it takes AR-15 triggers. However, if you are using it as a deer hunting rifle it probably isn't worth replacing the trigger.

Meh, I had one in the parts bin that has less creep than the old. As for "need", if it helps accuracy when shooting at game it's a worthwhile investment. Hunters have an ethical obligation to kill game efficiently. To me it's more important than in the shooting sports where a slightly errant shot only costs points, not a suffering animal.

Can the stock be exchanged for any other ar style stock? It's hideous in my opinion.

And does it take standard AR mags I thought it took a Troy specific mag?

Thanks

I think the folding stock (National Version) is pretty much Troy-specific but if you got the Optics Ready version, it should be a mil-spec AR buffer tube on it as far as i know.

I would say so yes based on holding up a harris the my rifle. I'm not sure exactly how rail sections get added to this forend but I believe there are modular rail sections for it. Alternatively you could drill the front end of the handguard and install a sling swivel stud to mount it that way.

Apparently there is an international version that takes Troy specific mags. No idea if those are available at all. Depends on Troy's capacity to manufacture.

I have heard rumblings of this in the works. If that becomes reality it will be a no brainer. Imagine 30rd legal, pump action AR (kinda).

Got back to the range the other evening. Similar results. My rifle prefers the 110 Barnes over the 125 gn Hog Hunter (2+ MOA vs 4+ MOA)

I managed to source some 110gn Vort-Tx bullets so I can work up a hunt load for this fall. For plinking/practice I will likely look at 110gn Vmax. For now I will be using H110 powder.

I understand A1680 is well regarded for accuracy but I don't have a source right now.

Where did you say if you did, get your gun from? Did you get the national or the base model? I wish I could figure out if the side folder can be exchanged with a magpul stock PTD or any other AR fitment or if there are parts to adapt one

I Run Guns

Standard model (I don't know of any source of the international model at this time)

I don't see how the side folder can be changed out for a buffer tube and conventional stock. Troy make an "optics ready" model that does not have the folding stock.

Rampart lists them for pre-order for about $1000

Ok thanks, I didn't realise the international model was a bit different. I had to many questions so I called Troy themselves in the US. Turns out the side folding stock can be removed and any AR 15 style buffer tubed stock can be used with a simple $ 24 US adaptor they sell. The optic ready gun with the battle axe stock has that adaptor allready.

I think the International version was the one that the RCMP Lab had for evaluation. Anyway, long story short, I don't think demand was deemed high enough by Troy to manufacture the International version on a large scale, kind of like the pistol version of the PAR. So they are just going to be making what's available to us now. This is just me going from memory here and I may be incorrect but I'm pretty sure the this is the score as told by gadget, who was involved with the initial rifle that was sent to the lab for evaluation and the initial importer. Someone might wanna PM him to get the official word on all this.

Trust me, I want a 25 round 308 and a 30 round 5.56 ready to rock and roll in my arsenal as much as the next guy. I just don't think it's gonna happen. The demand just isn't there.

If Troy made a version with a small cutout on the mag well, and made proprietary mags that had a little protrusion that would fit into this magwell cut out, that would be a huge win.

Imagine a pump action AR style rifle, that would accept AR 5 round pinned magazines, but also used the proprietary 20 round mags that would not fit into a regular AR magwell. Easy to do with polymer mags

Hopefully they will send me a design concept royalty cheque ;).
