T2 Garand - Part 1

I think the bottom line is, these rifles were misrepresented from the outset as something they are not. The safety issues are just the icing on the cake, albeit also a far more serious issue. Whether Marstar/John was aware of either of those problems at the outset or not, the fact remains that even once both were clearly proven, the only response given were a couple smart replies to minor sideline posts, followed up by roaring silence on the actual pertinent issues. All the while the rifles continued to be sold and the thread was being monitored by Marstar as it progressed, so it isn't as though they can plead ignorance after the fact either.

It's nice there's a guarantee. Yes, people should read about it. Clearly though, it's not what it seems either as shipping refunds may/may not be given apparently at their discretion (and are not being issued here according to those involved). That aside, having a guarantee return system doesn't absolve Marstar of selling a misrepresented and dangerous/defective product. Whether they knew or not at the start, again, once the problems were brought to light the official response or rather lack thereof just shows Marstar doesn't care about their customers and is content to let things continue on as long as they get paid. A reputable company, at the very least, would post a public acknowledgment, suspend sales, and contact those involved about "incorrect" ads and potentially lethal safety problems. The consumer has a reasonable expectation that advertising will be true, that they will receive the product that is advertised, and that it will be safe to operate. We have laws about those things for a reason. Those defending Marstar here seem to think it's fine for a company to sell dangerous, misrepresented items via false advertising and as long as the people who happen to find out can send them back, it's all good. Everyone else who gets fooled (or maybe injured too), oh well, that's their problem I guess. After all, how dare they assume they'd receive a product that actually matched its description and was safe to operate?

All legal considerations aside, just ask yourself, is that the kind of company you want to deal with and support with your business?

I'm going to go against the grain with you guys. Marstar will take the product back - you pay shipping and you get a refund. They are standing by the "Iron Clad Warranty". Sure you're out a few shipping shekels but it could be a lot worse. My gut is telling me that Marstar has been sold a bad bill of goods and didn't know they were passing it onto you.

Ive done business with Marstar for years and years and this is the first time I've seen anything like this from them. Yes John can be arrogant but truth be known people are always bloody crying the blues to him. No matter how you look at it this is Disapointing for sure. It's a great big turd sandwich and everyone has taken a big bite.

This thread was educational at one point but now it's gone mental.

I don't blame Marstar for no longer having coms on this thread. You guys are out for blood.
Take a time out and cool off dudes.

Richard - shipping costs, to me, are a secondary issue. The primary sin right now is that John has not recalled these and is allowing owners to shoot them. Someone is going to get their face blown off sooner or later with one of these grenades because of that company's greed.

I understand people being upset re shipping, but you can replace $120 - you can't replace your face or your life.

I was asked by a member here to take a look at his rifles. He purchased three of them, and had intended to sell one to his friend.
Incidentally, the friend is a former co-worker of mine that I stay in touch with.
The member her needed help posting photos, so these photos are his. I will post some that I took of his guns later.

FIRST AND FOREMOST. I AM POSTING HERE ONLY AS AN INDIVIDUAL, NOT AS ANY SORT OF OFFICIAL CGN STATUS.

I do not have a dog in the fight.
I did not buy one of these guns, but I have bought lots of other stuff from Marstar over the years.
In fact, I have good memories of reading and ordering stuff from Can Access to Firearms ad paper well before CGN was a thing.
As noted above, I am assisting a friend of a friend.

I found this member to be knowledgeable, and rational. Certainly not a whiner, troublemaker, attention seeker or professional dickhead.

These are his celpics, along with his comments in italics, and my own observations.
At first glance, these look like really nice rifles. The wood is not at all banged up from decades of use. And the Parkerizing is very nice as well.
So much for first glance.

Upon closer inspection, issues arise...

This is the first rifle we looked at. Pic shows gap and light shining through at left lug

5CPBSYL.jpg

By placing a light below, this photo shows the complete lack of contact between the port/left locking lug and the receiver.
The left lug is floating, not carrying half the load.

Another pic showing gap at left lug

zhUpxkW.jpg

Pic of the right lug showing lack of bearing surface and gap

pOZqXdu.jpg

This is the same rifle as above, the first we examined.
Although the light did not leak past the right lug in the first 2 pics, the starboard/right lug is FAR from good.
Notice the angle that the lug is ground at. (The smaller area closest to the viewer is the part that engages the oprod. Look just beyond this.)
The angle of the lug nowhere nearly matches the receiver. All of the load would be focused at the upper portion of the lug.
I was gobsmacked when I saw this. (and I dont get a chance to say gobsmacked often...)

Here is a pic of the bolt from the second rifle we looked at. It shows the grinding gouge on the extractor really well.

fhfuaH2.jpg

If the photo is enlarged, there can be seen a slight grind mark on the extractor. We took this to suggest that the bolt was complete when it was belt sanded, and the extractor got tagged by the belt.
It also shows what appears to be beltsanded area on the front of the lugs.
We examined the bolts by slowly moving them around in bright light and noticing the reflections.
There were noticeable waves in the shiny areas, indicating to us (We are both steel fabricators, BTW) that these surfaces had been belt sanded.

Barrel gap and droop on first rifle at receiver

ZtgonGz.jpg

This was clearly visible on one gun, but was not an issue with the other two.
It certainly looks as though the barrel is not seated against the face of the receiver at the top.

I took some photos myself of several layers of .003 brass shimstock being inserted in gaps behind the lugs.
I will upload those soon.

They are standing by the "Iron Clad Warranty" if you followed this thread, it should be clear to you there is no such thing. Sure you're out a few shipping shekels and why should the customer have to pay for this fiasco? for the misrepresentation and for fraudulent business practises? but it could be a lot worse. My gut is telling me that Marstar has been sold a bad bill of goods with over 30 years experience, and with all "his credentials" this cannot happen, John is the almighty in firearms knowledge! at least he wants everybody to believe so. and didn't know they were passing it onto you.

Just trying to defend this business and the shady business practises, gives us a glimpse of your moral fibre.

Well you can reassure your friend he will only be out $300+ in shipping as Marstar stands by their Ironclad Guarantee.....
Seriously has John gone senile selling this level of garbage? Is there even a single one of these rifles that aren't completely garbage?
He can't "pass the buck" on these rifles if someone gets hurt, they are the importer and distributor, they are 100% legally liable for every single one of these pieces of #### out there. At this point his insurance wouldn't even cover someone getting hurt due to his gross negligence...."Mr. Johnone, at what point were you made aware these rifles posed a safety concern? Almost immediately you say? And what did you do to correct this situation? Nothing you say? Well Mr Johnone.... you're ####ed"
Seriously, there are exclusions in every insurance policy for failure to act....his entire business is at risk over this ####show.

I do agree that John should recall every last one of those rifles but only after Marstar has to opportunity to verify what is being said here on this forum. I'm sure he will do the right thing. If he doesn't then he will also lose me as a future customer. However until that happens John and Marstar are innocent until proven guilty.

And how is he to do that if he doesn't recall the rifles. He has had enough information here including photographic to do so. He has been in this forum many times and knows what is going on and ignores the questions asked.

Well - A situation like this could spell the end for Marstar financially - they obviously got burned by their German supplier, and I doubt they would have any recourse with them. How do folks feel about losing Marstar as a business?

Oh no! Where would I ever be able to buy low quality NC Star gear and Norinco firearms.....
Other then just about everywhere....

And browse through 90% of the "out of stock" items listed on their website....
Yes it would be a tragic loss to the firearms community.

The last 2 shipments of milsurps they brought in....these fake T2's and the "some are snipers some are not for $1100 SVT's" have both been ####shows...

He's had three weeks to address the issue. They only response has been attacks on forums members

How many rifles are affected from the lot? I went through all posts and can see photos for less then 5 rifles and can count less then 8 people who actually bought them. The whole affair smells bad. Photo evidence from few photos posted and 1 video is damming. That whole affair is bad for CGN. Please resolve it

And to go back on his word that they have the best warranty in the business where you won't be out a dime because they refund shipping as well... don't forget that gem he's pulled strictly out of spite for getting outed on her for first the authenticity, and secondly the safety of these rifles.

The one that tootall posted has now taken the lead for the "worst" rifle in this entire thread....0% contact on left lug, maybe 15% on the right. That bolt would fail in less then an enbloc, if not on the first round fired.... just brutal, no way these were proofed properly.

I would be curious to see a actual garand in comparison. how much light would come through?

On a safe, functional M1, 80% minimum lug engagement per lug was required.... Purple covered it earlier in the thread.
There should be no gaps between lugs and receiver.

Wow. That's pretty bad.

thats not "prity bad", thats as bad as it gets id say. i do think that this would most likely not make it through a enblock before it ether sheers the lug, or destroys the reciver . that bolt has been welded, then ground to a rediculas angle, plus the face of the lugs have been ground even looseing more strength. selling something like this to the general public, and haveing 3 weeks to come clean and fix things, is also almost as bad as it gets in my book. J1 has been here snooping every day, and hasnt maned up yet. he must have a death wish

Those rifles are a complete waste of what looked to be pretty nice parts before they were destroyed by Hack. I think selling them as parts kits and not getting them put together would have made everyone very happy...

Yes...and the so-called 'defendant' remits his HST to the 'Crown'....so now is the Crown receiving proceeds from a crime??. Good luck with that Sherlock.... :)

Colorado rakes in a billion dollars a year in taxes from marijuana sales. Yet weed is still illegal in the feds eyes. All transactions are in cash and many banks will not touch deposits from pot retailers because of the proceeds of crime laws. Taxes appear to be exempt from those laws.
