I have a Remington 700 tactical ACC-SD in .223 & O have a few muzzle breaks, I tried them all but can't get them indexed right. shims offered with one brand of break doesn't work well.

So do I need a crush washer then and where do I find one that will match the diameter of my barrel & threads as the AR crash washers aren't wide enough.
Yes AR washers fit over the threaded part but look like sh!t as they aren't as wide as the outer diameter of the 700 HB hence making the install look half assed.

I have the 308 aac-sd. The crush washer that came with my break fit up perfectly. You may just have to order a couple different brands? They are fairly cheap in 5 packs. I'm surprised no one else has chimed in on the gunsmith forum...
Just stay away from ar15 washers and try to find the ones that match the thread listed above.
Good luck, I'm sure they are easy enough to order.

If your math skills don't allow you to figure out how thick the crush washer needs to be to get the brake to index properly, get a bud to figure it out for you. Then get a proper washer made up of the proper thickness and inside/outside diameters by a bud with a lathe or local machine shop.

You need to be careful when attaching anything to the muzzle, including muzzle brakes and washers. Different stresses can cause erratic points of impact. I have heard people poo poo this but I have found it to be true on several rifles. In one recent case the only cure was to cut off the threads and start over. I will say that more often than not very little if anything changes with the addition of a brake/washer.

lets see math, we the last time I was in school was 1986. my dial caliper battery is dead & I have no other way to measure other then a tape and I'm trusting that to this job.

Also I was worried about forcing it in place as I do agree that it could pooch the barrel some way. my choice or break is a ACC-T51 Blackout or a Surefire pro comp.

So it's just the look you don't like with the gap due to the crush washer?
Not much you can do about that unless you get something like a Badger FTE that doesn't use crush washers, but you need to have the barrel turned.

indexing is also an issue, but I think spacers from Questar might fix that

I ended up just using an S&J linear brake with no spacer/washer, just loctite and threaded until it contacted the barrel shoulder.
I tried a bunch of different brakes too, and they don't really do anything noticeable on these heavy little rifles....a linear at least makes them less noisy to the shooter and others around.
