I'm wondering if any one is aware of any Canadian percussion or flintlock dueling pistol makers.

I recall seeing a percussion pistol from a non supporting dealer (Denner) who had a pistol made my Booth from Ottawa

Thanks

Brian

Canadian made ml pistols are uncommon. Have never heard of a Canadian made pair of duelling pistols.

Duelling was also illegal in the Dominion, hence the scarcity or absence of the indigenous paraphernalia. Which is ironic if you look into the fates and practices of our earliest attorneys general and members of the bar in Upper Canada.

Hang on, hang on! Duelling was legal until 1821!!!

As with most things Canadian, the last duel was comically unimpressive and anti-climactic. :)

In Perth Ontario there is a plaque and a little history about the duel.

While I asked about dueling pistol, perhaps I should have said simply pistol makers.

Im asking because I'm currently shooting at the Muzzeloading championships in Hungary and am surrounded by fine English and European pistols and would love to compete with a Canadian made pistol if they existed.

Mater and Jones made pistols, although the latter specialized in derringers. Could check Gooding's book. The likelihood of finding and obtaining a Canadian pistol with which to compete is pretty low.

The duel in Perth could have ended honourably for the combatants as they both missed their first shots. One of the 'seconds' badgered them to reload and, consequently, John Wilson killed Robert Lyon. The actual pistols used are still on display in the Perth museum.
