Getting a .455 Webley to the USA

I did some additional digging and found out that the ATF would need to do a "drop test" on it. They drop it to make sure it had a hammer block. Looking at the schematics the Webley looks like it has a spring only keeping the hammer off the primer... There is no hammer block.

Does anyone know if a Webley would survive a drop test like that? Has anyone ever successfully imported one into the USA? If not I will need to go to plan "B" and sell this one And buy one down here as I am not likely to move back for some years...

Doesn't the US have a firearms category called "curios and relics"? Might exempt it from needing modern safety features. How else would antique firearms get into the US?

I would think your best bet would be to ask your local FFL or the ATF directly. You could also contact forum sponsor Irunguns. They operate on both sides of the border and could probably help you out.

This is what I am concerned about...

"Safety Test
A double action revolver must have a safety feature which automatically (or in a single action revolver by manual operation) causes the hammer to retract to a point where the firing pin does not rest upon the primer of the cartridge,. The safety device must withstand the impact of a weight equal to the weight of the revolver dropping from a distance of 36” in a line parallel to the barrel upon the rear of the hammer spur, a total of 5 times."

No one seems to know if C&R are exempt from this...

Just a note, it will only need to be engraved with an importer's mark if it goes through them (e.g. Borderview). If you go through the process yourself you can avoid the engraving, but it's a complicated process and if you move before it's approved the whole process is scrapped irrevocably. Other than that, ask Borderview - their cost is relatively reasonable and they are willing to place the mark in an unobtrusive location.

I still wonder if you can still use the 6NIA if you are not moving there _permanently_ - just keep renewing it every year?

Well POOP. All was going well and then ATF got back to IRunGuns and they said my Webley cannot be imported. So screw it, I am going to try and get a buyer in Canada for it and get a replacement down here.

Anyone interested in a .455 Webley with 300 rounds and 200 brass cases (Fiocchi)?
