Alberta ban on spear hunting after American hunter kills black bear

There was another article on here...

Best part is when some media relations genius from the MNR said this.....

"In Ontario, it’s illegal to hunt with anything other than a firearm (which includes bows), according to Jolanta Kowalski, media relations officer for the ministry of natural resources. “A spear is not a firearm,” she said."

Is the implication that bows are "anything ther than a firearm"? Or is she saying they're classed as a firearm for hunting purposes? Either way it's wrong... Archery has very specific seasons and regs separate from firearms and is definitely allowed in Ontario. I'll be going black bear hunting in a few weeks with a compound bow and paying a guide....

Fish and Wildlife Conservation Act, 1997, S.O. 1997, c. 41:

1. (1) ...
“firearm” includes an air gun, pellet gun, bow or crossbow

I despise the NDP government and the so called "progressive" left wing nut cases that have been appointed and are creating policy. Are they going to ban hunting with miniature spears like the kind that are shot from a bow next? Although not my cup of tea the end result looked to be quick, ethical, challenging and more than fair.

What isn't being talked about is the "New updated hunting regulations" that the NDPs are bringing out that will include a ban on hunting with spears,...It is going to shock some of you

Yah, that statement caught my eye immediately, much more than the bit about spear hunting being banned. This NDP government is doing as much sucking up to SJW vegan 'save a bear, feed it a human' voters in the municipalities that it can in hopes of procuring a second term to do more damage to an already beaten down Alberta. As far as how the 'average' guy feels about the NDP government? The best description I heard was from a lady who said 'The election of the NDP in Alberta was very similar to revenge ###. It felt great when you did it, but you regretted it the next morning'.

My guess is they will attempt to make it effectively impossible to hunt. Carbon tax? You aint seen nuthin. Wait till you try to buy your deer tag and get the 'murdering Bambi' tax....

Using a spear to kill a bear, or rather sticking a spear in a bear and leaving it to eventually die, then celebrating while it suffers, is in my opinion, a very stupid thing to do.
The uproar created by social media is another nail in the coffin of sport hunting.
Any thinking person should have figured out what would happen, after the video was released to the media.

Honestly, i dont see how using a spear is much different than using a bow or crossbow where the animal has to bleed out as well

Well said .... and the celebrating and face painting by the couple turned me off.
