12(6) Owners- What's Your Age?

I thought it would be interesting to see the age spread among 12(6) owners here on Gun Nutz. If I remember correctly this wretched law came into effect on February 14, 1995. My hunch is the youngest shooter/ collector that we'll see post here is between 40-45 years of age.

I currently have only one 12(6) in my collection, only to retain my status-- a Rossi .22 revolver that is unsafe to shoot. ( but I'm always going to buy more )

69, and under 12(6) still have;
- Ruger SP 101, 4" in .22LR
- Colt Diamondback, 4" in .22LR
- Ruger GP 100, 4" in 357 Mag.
- S&W 29, 4" in 44 Mag.
- Elmer Keith Commemorative, same as above.

I'm 48 so that makes us the "young guys". Back in '95 it was predicted that eventually the handful of 12(6) licensed owners remaining would own 1000's of prohibs. Now many people have discovered that a lot of our prohibs are worth good money in the US, so that's where some of them are ending up. We all know that's a one way trip and only helps the government get rid of these horrible Saturday Night Specials.

If I go before you, you can have all mine!

My first was a S&W 625 3". Most recent is a PPK I just bought on the EE.
 
Just happened to look up some stats:

According to the CFP info on the web.......

As of Dec. 2014 there were 185,707 prohibs registered in Canada

As of Jan. 2010 there were 203,987 prohibs registered in Canada

That's quite a drop in 5 years. Almost 10% of the prohibs gone in that short a time.
 
#10. I am 46 Have several 12.6 and still shoot them. Still purchase some on occasion if the price is not outrageous: it's a pretty niche market right now with less potential buyers every year.

S&W 60 2.5" Charter Arms .22LR Mini 2" S&W 66 2.5" S&W 629 2.5" Rossi .22LR 2.5" S&W 686 4" And several auto pistols. Don't get me started on my 12.5 / OIC #13 stuff.....

Would love a few more compact pistols that don't have the basterdized barrels... especially something in 10mm!

#11. Going on 72 with carpal tunnel and arthritis in both hands, so prohibited (being generally smaller and lighter) hand-guns suit me better anyway at this point.
 
I am 62 in the Metric system and have my 12(6).The only hand gun I kept was my Smith & Wesson Model:39.To bad we can not pass them along to the younger crowd I would give it away.

Walther PPK .32 ACP
Beretta 71 .22 LR
Ruger GP-100 .357 Mag (ridiculous, it has a 4" barrel)
Mauser C-96 "Red 9" 9mm (also with a 4" barrel)

I am 52 with three 12(6) firearms. Two snubbies (Mod 60 &39), and a 4" Taurus. I only need one for my status, looking to get ready d of the others.

Alpha Revolver – 32 rimfire, my most valuable firearm. Inherited from my Dad in 1983
Python Nickel 4” – beautiful revolver, but it is the one that keeps reminding me what prohibited means in Cdn $ . Python 6”nickel ($3500+/-) vs Python 4”nickel (maybe $1800-$2200??) = $Ouch
Diamondback 4” Blue - nicest trigger action I have ever known
Diamondback 4” Nickel – bought recently, what can I say, it was shiny and I just could not resist
Trooper Mark V 4”Nickel – shoot it, love it
Nazi Luger 9mm – history buff/
And last a High Standard “Sentinel Deluxe 4” in.22cal . Comes with a beautiful, graphic box with factory paperwork and all the owners names/registration forms back to original owner. Purchased at Hubbel Hardware, Thamesville On., in the 1960’s . Purpose for which the firearm required……..”home protection” . Try that out next time you call in a transfer. Box now worth as much as the revolver.

64 years old. Have more than 1 and always looking. Just the other day was wondering how rapidly our numbers ( 12-6 status) are passing by, either by passing on or by giving up our prohibs. Anyone know how many of us are left? Dave
 
I'm also 73 with several 12(6) handguns, none of which my wife can directly inherit.

We are the last of our breed, a class of gun owner fast disappearing. Same for the FA guys. What a travesty. However, I know of several that are unpapered and shall ever remain so.
