If clear, Hammer down, holster.

With the firearm always pointing straight down range, press the trigger so that the hammer falls. If, through inadvertence, there is a cartridge in the chamber, there will be a discharge down range in a safe direction. It should be stressed that the hammer must be dropped by pressing the trigger so that if there is a cartridge in the chamber it will discharge. This will ensure that there is no possibility the pistol will be holstered with a live cartridge in the chamber.

How does this procedure work for firearms (S&W M&P 9) with a magazine disconnect that prevents one from actually activating the striker with a trigger pull without a mag inserted? Does one have to have this feature removed from his/her pistol or is a modified procedure?

You inform the RO before the course of fire and after you are finished shooting that your gun has a magazine disconnect and you need to insert an empty magazine in order to drop the hammer.

Maintaining your gun in a safe direction, show the RO the empty magazine, insert it, pull the trigger, drop the mag, holster. Then wait for the RO to say "the range is clear". If he doesn't, hang out until he figured out what to do. Take your time.

You can get the m&p with and without the mag disconnect feature. If yours has it it is not allowed to be altered or removed in production division. Really best to just sell the gun and either get a more competitive gun or another m&p without the mag disconnector.

Well now I am curious, if I have it removed, how is possible that they know it was removed? Not saying I would do this, I am just mealy curious.

ok If I have it removed, what class would that put me in? Not like it overly matters as I just want to shoot the pistol I have and the way I want it to shoot. So I assume open?

if you get caught during a match; open. otherwise since it's a ''mod'ed''' gun, standard.

Pretty sure if you swap it out with parts from another model M&P you are ok. Some approved models have it and some don't.

According to the IPSC HG rules guru - Vince... it's OK to disconnect the magazine safety on an M&P.

There we go, the almighty has spoken.

From the same thread it looks like it would not have been legal if s&w didn't offer the same pistol without the disconnect.
