Why don't you cut your losses and invest in a set of weaver bases. They're reasonable price, and they make em for all sorts of ancient rifles. Then anchor you scope with Burris Zeeeeeee rings. Rings might cost a little more, but you'll save on bases.

+1

Most of my rifles wear Weaver bases with Burris "Z" or B-Square "Lynx" steel rings... good secure, economical set up... and easy on scope tubes, too. ;)

I don't see how you buying the wrong base somehow is Leupold's fault ? Thats like blaming GM for bumps on Saskatchewan hiways!

UM

So that's who messed up our roads. I wonder if there is a connection to out of business gunshops selling the wrong base? Some of these conspiracies run pretty deep..................;)

The gun shop that I bought the base is closed because he died. The package the base came in says Savage 110LH and it doesn't fit my lefthand 110

The 2 front ones are perfect and the rear hole in the base lands in the middle of the 2 holes in the action, my 110 was made in 1959, the base has 110LH stamped on it.

What you have is a base for a more recent long action gun. As I said in my earlier post, you probably have a Series J action. Look on the left side of the barrel just ahead of the barrel nut and see if it is stamped Series J.

It is possible, as others have suggested, that you have a base for an older model Savage.

If you can identify exactly what base you have, and what type of Savage it is supposed to fit, you might be able to sell it on this site, and get some of your money back.

I had a similar problem on a savage (since dumped). In my case the base holes were drilled off center from the factory. I have also heard of this on other savage rifles. Hopefully this is not what is going on with your rifle, but....

Savage is no free lunch, while they can shoot, the savage price tag comes with savage quality, which, well, is often lacking.

There are three lengths of Savage actions, short, intermediate, and long. The intermediate was thier original short action, and the rifle date of 59 would lend credence to that theory. As well, in the newer models, the Accutrigger equipped rifles have a different base pattern then the previous rifles. So there are a lot of things that can go wrong with base selection in this case. Deciding that "Savage LH" means it will fit your action without further checking, is like figuring you can get the right part at the dealer by telling the parts guy "car, GM, red". Sorry that you got bit, but that's the way it is. Measure the overall length of the receiver, how many holes, the distance between the holes, and the size of the holes, and you should be able to get the right ones. I've run into the odd sized Savage before, had to find an old set of Redfield rings that fit it. - dan

I bought the wrong sized underwear, I got a size medium and cant get my ass to fit in them. God Damn you Joe Boxer, GOD DAMN YOU!!!

Here we go boxers vs briefs again.

I like Leupold optics immensely, but this is not the first time I have heard complaints about certain scope accessories, not fitting a certain model of firearm.
Apparentely thier scope mounts for newer Model 629 series S&Ws can be a no-fit too. And I am a huge fan of Leupold scopes....

Add to this a rifle of questionable machining and you have a minor disaster
on your hands.....

( not old Model 99s, but twice in the last year I have had friends purchase new Savage bolt actions and they have serious problems right from NIB!?!?!)

A one piece B-square fits it just fine, I won't buy anything with leupold on it any more. I can't bring myself to spend big bucks on a scope that I'm going to look at for 20 to 30 min a year,
The base I bought says Savage 110LH, if this base doesn't fit the older model 110, then Leupold should have put that on the package

Twenty minutes should be enough time for you to take it out of the case, check zero and put it back into the case once a year. Do you even like shooting?

On my hunting rifle I have a Bushnell Trophy which I only hunt with, when I'm watching fields or powerlines I use binoculars. I shoot alot with my 6.5x55 and .303 and .22-250 and .22lr all have bushnell Trohpy that I bought used and all work fine had a weaver marksmen on the .22-250 for years and worked fine and paid $30 for it. The only time I look through a scope in the bush is when I'm taking something down. My binoculars are Bausch & Lomb, because I use them all day
