Why can't I find a Remington 700 barrel?

Does anybody know where to buy one of these in Canada?

I need it chambered in .223, threaded, crowned and ready for my gunsmith to install. The only ones I can find are on Brownells, are sold out, and come unfinished. I would like parkerized to matte blued to match the received.

If your gunsmith needs them threaded and ready to install he isn't much of a gunsmith.

He doesn't, but I would benefit financially from bringing him a barrel ready to go. It's the finish I'm concerned with. Every barrel I see is stainless. Do I ask the gunsmith to finish it?

A Rem 700 barrel isn't a pre fit, so you would likely want it crowned and head spaced before the finish is applied, likely why you aren't finding a barrel that has a finish on it.

The best way to go about it is getting a barrel blank in the caliber and twist you want then have the smith chamber and crown it for you the only available prefit rem 700 barrels will be setup with a barrel nut like a savage.

There are lots of places to get barrel blanks in Canada and I don't know of any smiths that don't already have a 223 chamber reamer .

Go with the stainless bbl on the blued action. I works fine. I've done many over the yrs and it saves on having to refinish if you leave it as is. Blued actions do tend to be a bit smoother than SS.
