12 gauge 3 1/2" slugs

When I lived in a shotgun zone, I experimented with numerous slugs and rifled barrels, and almost universally found that 2 3/4-inch slugs outperformed their 3-inch counterparts (same brand/model) in terms of accuracy. I wonder if 3 1/2-inchers would continue that pattern? Would they be even less accurate?
 
Yep same here only shoot 2 3/4 slugs out of my gun they shoot great. Could not imagine the recoil from a 3.5" slug talk about flinch!

when I had my bps 10 gauge I had bought some slugs for it and it was fun to shoot except I woul totaly close my eyes when pulling the trigger........ was way more than a flinch. LOL
 
3/1/2/ 10 ga slugs from my dad's super goose and my bps were nothing special in the recoil department do to the gun weight. Sabot slugs and turkey loads from every 12 I've shot them from exceeded what the 10s kicked back.
 
After many years of deer hunting in a shotgun-only zone in Ontario, I can now use rifles for my deer hunting...but I still enjoy shooting slugs for fun and practice. IMHO they are a wonderful and relatively inexpensive way to keep your shoulder tuned up for recoil. Poor accuracy with some slugs? Meh...just use bigger targets! :)

Here's my favourite slug shotgun: a Poor Man's Double Rifle...a Beater Big Bore...inspired by an article in a decades-ago Gun Digest. It's an old Husky 12ga SxS with barrels cut down, basic open sights installed, no recoil pad. It's actually taken a coyote, a couple of chucks, a few skunks, etc. all at backyard ranges.

It's especially sporting when a skunk is the target and I'm shooting one of the Husky's non-favoured loads (I'll buy whatever is on sale...). I often have to get close enough to the skunk that I end up being within his range; it's less like hunting and more like duelling! :)

I love it… makes it more sporting!

I have some 10 gauge 1 3/4 oz slugs. Have yet to try them, but I am thinking they will be quite effective if ever needed.
