Hey all,

Since moving out to the country I have been plinking off the deck. Taking shots at squirrels and the metal targets I set up in the bush. The wife was getting into it pretty good the other night while I BBQ'ed but my Benjamin Trail XP is too much for her to load or hold very long.

I am looking for a quality air gun for her. She is pretty small of stature (5'0") so a youth model might be appropriate. Is there any high powered air guns in youth sizes?

Thanks,

Bush pilot

Stoeger X3 Ive been told to get for my wife. But only rated 550 FPS.

Mine at 5'6 found my 700 FPS vantage long but managed ( it cocks pretty easy ). It was better when I mounted the Benjamin Trail stock.

Weihrach ,RWS 34 or CZ 637 forget the Turkish,Spanish and Chinese junk buy German or Czech........Harold

Excellent, thank you. Is there anyplace in the Ottawa area to see these guns? I would like to have her pick one up and see if it fits her first.

Cheers,

Bush pilot

Easy to find and Affordable
Reuger Air Hawk, got mine at bass pro in 2009, used it around the farm for varmints like pigeons. This is a 550fps rifle shooting 0.177 and is accurate and very effective without the risk of shooting thru tin roofs if shooting indoors. I took terrible care of this rifle leaving it in the box in the barn between use for years and now it's in my safe. Still shoots great with only minor rust on the barrel exterior that would be easy to remove but I have not got around to tearing it down because it still works great.
There are fancier guns but for about $150 you can't go wrong.

If it were my wife, I'd get her the best lightweight, high quality air rifle that I can afford, a Weirauch HW30. DLairgun has them.

I think most guy a secretly fantasizing that their wife will ask them for a gun... any kind of gun!

I bought mine a Crosman Raven she used it once. Got bored, she now wants a Crosman 1077 and when said it was only like 3lb several oz, she was WOW. I think it was the 12 shots as fast as you could fire that made her want it more.

I fight the urge to suggest a .22 over an airgun because I actually like airguns. But, depending on how "out to the country" you are, it might be worth considering. CCI CB Long ammo, CCI Quiet-22 out of a full-length barrel is about the same level of noise as lots of "high power" air guns. Might be worth considering.

Other than a Webley Tempest, a Crosman 1377 with a shoulder stock, a handful of BB guns..my only "serious" air rifle is an Industry Brand QB-79. It's a CO2-powered, .22cal single shot bolt action. Feeds off of 9oz CO2 bottles that cost me $6 to fill, and lasts for ALLOT of shots. Now I say "serious" because it's PAL-rated, but not by much. lol I had the gun converted to run off of HPA (high pressure air) only so I could blast pigeons with it in cold weather. (CO2 performance seems to drop-off fast when temps drop to 15C or lower) For the cost of doing that, the small 3000psi bottles, I'm not sure it was worth the expense, but time will tell this fall winter. :) Anyhow, as a fair weather gun...my wife/kids liked shooting it because there was no pump to fiddle with, no recoil, no barrel to ####, could be shot prone, etc. etc. etc. Hits pretty hard too, and goes off with a satisfying "thump". Before the HPA business, I had about 4 x 9oz. CO2 bottles, so all kinds of shooting before a trip back to the paintball place to refill.

No high powered air guns in youth sizes and they are not good candidates for powering up due to the small air chamber size.
Maybe a good choice would be a HW50 800 fps in .177, lighter than your rifle and quite a bit shorter. The only problem is they are substantially better quality than your rifle and more expensive which could lead to an arms race and the beginning of a new addiction.

I would suggest the Weihrauch HW 95 its what i shoot. Personally i dont like a long heavy air rifle and prefer something lighter with a balance more like a "rifle".
The barrel is a little shorter on it as well as the compression tube is a little thinner its more a less a scaled down HW 80. Many people say get an HW50, I had one of them and they are just fine but the linkage is a little different so it is very hard to compress compared to the HW95. Overall the 95 is a little longer but not much and its easier to ####. After I got my 95 I sold my 50 to a friend in his 70's he liked the rifle a lot but after a few weeks complained about cocking it. A few months later I got another 95 in a trade and he was more then happy to swap me for the 50. He likes the 95 a lot better.

My HW95 is in .22cal with a vortex kit doing 750 fps with RWS domed pellets. Personally i think it is about the best choice out there for a smaller rifle with power. If she doesn't like the weight of a springer perhaps you should look into a Benjamin sheridan 397 or 392 unless she is against a pumper. Good luck get what she likes.

They dont all look like this one the stock is off an old Beeman
