Alaska Moose and Grizz

Go with a classic .375 HH
Thousands of dead elephants and Buffalo would tell you it's enough gun !
Either way have a safe trip and enjoy !

Go with the rifle that fits, that you can bring up from the low ready and see the sights centered on what you need to hit. For the moose, that alone might just get you a trophy that fiddling for part of a second to adjust your aim would cost you the shot. For the griz, well, yeah, they are mortal, and die like any other animal, but in the seconds between being killed and getting around to dying, they can create the need for a whole lot of stitches, and sometimes embalming fluid. Being able to hit fast and well might just, in one or two percent of the time, prevent stitches, be they applied by an emergency doc, or a medical examiner.

Oh, and if you happen to call a cranky moose who comes in at full speed, being able to get solid hits NOW is always a good plan. But me, I would still always choose a Partition. Tens of thousands of absence of failure gotta count for something.

All input appreciated! Decided on the 338 but changed projectiles to the factory loaded Federal 250 Partition vs the Barnes. The 338 is slightly more accurate, slightly lighter and has the 2-12 mounted vs the 1-6 on the 375....Additionally the 85 Kodiak had occasional ejection issues that clearly I was not smart enough to get sorted to 100% reliability (that is a whole other other thread).

You are going to Alaska.

You have a rifle named "Kodiak"

Need I say more?

The Sako has a stutter quote below, that makes the call right there.

Big .375 fan here but can't pretend it's going to be any different than rsp's .338 for this so either way, good to go! Toughest calls are between good choices.

Additionally the 85 Kodiak had occasional ejection issues that clearly I was not smart enough to get sorted to 100% reliability (that is a whole other other thread).

Not sure which caliber the Kodiak with the ejection issues is, but it sure wouldn't be going on any hunt with me.

75s aren't 100% on ejecting the magnum cases, at least my two aren't. Keeping the the spring loaded mechanical ejector meticulously clean helps, and for some reason any grime in the extractor seems effect ejection. Don't know why it does, but it does. My 85 was a 30-06, and while it always ejected in the time I had it, was rather lazy in that regard. Should throw empties to the moon but they don't.

Isn't that nice..... especially with any number of FN, Husqvarna, and Zastava factory rifles available for half the price, and they function perfectly!

Interesting. Of the roughly 2 dozen 75's I have had none had ejection issues. And this is the first time I have read anything about a problem with ejector getting dirty.

Don't worry; the irony of the situation hasnt completely escaped my attention. Neither has the higher percentage of Weatherby Mark V's with less than stellar extraction. If I really want a rifle to work, chances are I'm carrying one that got scared really badly by a Mauser.

Trouble is, if I really want one to shoot it probably looks a lot like a Remington. ;)
