What do I need to know about buying a trigger?

I'm looking to upgrade the trigger on my Remington 700 clone. Right now I have a stock Remington trigger that I tuned myself and got it to break pretty clean at 3.75 pounds. I'm looking for something with a bit of adjustment so I can work from around two pounds up to as close to zero as I can. I tried out a two stage Jackson at the range the other day and decided that's not for me. The timneys seem to have a lot of options. I'm just wondering what other guys are using and is there anything else I need to order with it?

Check out the Canadian made Trigger Tech drop in, have one on my Rem 700 and love it, adjustable from 1.5 to 4 lbs, Canada ammo sells them and CTCS also, both site sponsors.
 
There seems to be mixed reviews on the trigger tech. I don't doubt they're far better than a stock trigger, but are the as good as a Jewell or Timney? I was going to buy one when they first came out, but I waited to get some reviews and then the price went way up
 
Once you decide on the pull weight, decide on the rifle application.

If you are building a range rifle, the Jewell is very hard to beat.

If you are building a hunting or PRS type rifle, I would lean you towards a Timney.

Simple.

I've had a lot of grief with timneys the last couple years between light strikes and some that the creep just couldn't be adjusted out of. Like Jerry said the jewel is great on a range gun but if the gun will see dirt/dust probably not the best choice. I've had a few trigger techs and had good luck with them but have heard of a few with issues. I've had good luck with rifle basix as well.

Where you using aftermarket custom actions by any chance?

Triggers are like everything else, you get what you pay for. I have all of the above named triggers. Timneys are good in they higher end stuff such as the Calvin elite. I've had a lot of failures with the 510. Just had a failure with a rifle basix, have a couple of the cadex two stages triggers. One is great the other won't adjust properly. I have three trigger techs and for the money they are decent. I just wish they would adjust lighter. All of my jewels have functioned perfectly all the time in all conditions. But they are the most expensive. So I guess it comes down to budget and what you want your end result to be.

I have a Trigger Tech on my 20cal and liked it. Just started acting up, then seized completely. Called them up and was told to send it in, 100% warranty. Can't ask for better than that. Everything made can break, to me it comes down to two things - how is the warranty upheld and does the problem repeat.

I too would like one that adjusted down a lot lower, 6 to 8 ounces type of thing
 
I did have light strikes in my pierce and realized the sear design was incorrect for the custom action. Had light strikes on another pierce that had the correct style sear. The creep issues were on both factory and custom guns. I've used more timneys than any other trigger but have also had a much higher percentage of issues with them. Like anything the qc can fluctuate and I still use timney in most rifles other than rem/clones. I also have used the cadex two stage and it seemed decent, but I'm not a two stage fan. It's too bad hs precision doesn't offer their trigger for Remington's that's a slick unit.
