So the other day i was at the range sighting in an sks i got in trade. It was grouping fine at 25 yards. Move out to 50 yards, and it's not even on the paper. I adjusted the front sight all the way left, and it still shoots left about 6-8 inches. Anyone have similar issues? Any ideas?

okay if you move the sight to the left it will shoot more to the left. You have to move the sight opposite to the way you want it to shoot. Same with up and down.

That sounds a lot like stock movement. I had one stock that flopped so bad that a napalm run would have been more precise.
Check for fore and aft rattle between the action and the stock.
In one case, I used a short piece of hose clamp as a shim at the very back of the stock cavity.
Tightened up the group like no tomorrow.

And the other thing about the gun is that the stock to metal fitment is perfect. It's actually the best i've ever seen on an sks. I had high hopes of it being accurate. It's factory hardwood.

I'm getting my crown cutting tool this week. I'll let you know if it makes a difference.

I'm thinking crown may not be square.

Cool, it'll be interesting to hear if it makes a difference. I dunno if i'd go for a high end crowning tool, but i may have to bust out the brass bolt and lapping compound at some point.

Here's something i don't get......If the crown is so dang important, how come an ak-47 slant brake doesn't send the bullets flying off into space?

Its probably because there is a capitalist pig hiding near by over to the left. No mater how much you adjust the sights the SKS will naturally fire over in the direction of a capitalist. This is why I can't bring my SKS to the range. Strictly out in the woods far away from everyone. Sometimes even i'm not safe so I resort to shooting at paper targets with a dirt background only. No steel, rocks, or water.

What I have read so far is the a damaged crown will not affect you group size. If the crown is not square to the barrel, poi will shift because the base of the bullet does not leave the muzzle equally.

Will find out soon enough.

Well, crown is done, will let you know the results when I shot the beast Saturday.

For the record, this was before
