Sooooo... NEA stripped lower. S&J Hardware LPK. Still missing a buffer kit, but I was too excited so I figured I'd assemble everything else. Well, it looks to me like either the hammer/trigger pins are too big, or the lower isn't drilled out to the correct size. I have used some gusto to try to get them in there but from what I understand they should go in fairly easily so I haven't go so far as to break out the hammer. Not sure if the issue is the lower, or the pins but I can't help but be a little disappointed. Any suggestions people who know infinitely more than me?

Stop!! My friend and I had the same issue. The pins are oboist 3 tho oversized. S and J was happy to replace them after a few emails an phone calls. Measure your pins everyone!

^^^^ This depending on how long ago you purchased the S&J LPK. Think we might have told you about this in your other thread when you were asking about which LPK to pick up. If it's a recent purchase I'm surprised that S&J are still sending out out of spec parts when they know they have an issue.

When I ran into it, I thought this sounded like a familiar story but for some reason thought the issue was springs and that I'd double check with you fine folks. I did order it after that had come to light and was supposed to have been addressed by S&J. As I said, I'm a little disappointed, but I'll get a hold of them and see how soon I can get it sorted out. It is possible my kit is from before they fixed the issue because I bought it through a vendor and not directly from them. I'm also a little bummed that the length of the included grip bolts makes it so you can't use a Magpul grip, but I guess I'll cross that bridge later.

Any reason why you can't use the bolt that comes with the Magpul grip? Someone might have to correct me, but I thought that most magpul grips came with their own hex head/flat head screw? At least the one in my MIAD did.

Well, I can't help, but this worries me, I also purchased an NEA stripped lower and my S&J LPK ships out on Tuesday.

Don't know if you've built a lower before, but this was/is my first and I was using some YouTube assistance and depending on which video you use, the detent hole in the receiver is in a different location. The video I was using had the detent hole through the back of the receiver, where on the NEA it's through the bottom next to the hole for the safety detent/spring.

I bought a MIAD from the EE, and unfortunately no bolt was included. Where the grip meets the receiver on the S&J grip is higher than the Magpul. With the bolt bottomed on the grip with the S&J it sits as it should, the Magpul still wiggles even with the bolt bottomed. If it were an 1/8 of an inch shorter it'd work for both. Not something that can't be worked around, just a minor annoyance.

This will be my first build, thanks for the heads up!

Imagine how impressed I was, following a long the video and the pins wouldn't go in "Well, that kind of sucks guess I'l go back to that later." Then 2 steps later "What the Hell? Did they forget to drill a hole?!?!?!?" lol

Use some small washers to make up the slack, or cut 1/8" off the bolt, Both very easy fixes.

After some research the machine screw for the pistol grip should be 1/4-28 x 1 inch. The included one is 1-1/8 or 1-1/16 in length. If you're using the included grip you'll be fine, for me to use the Magpul MIAD grip I needed to grab a new bolt. As was mentioned earlier a couple washers would also work, and presumably if there's an included bolt it will also work.

either way make sure to use an external tooth washer

also, unless they have changed, you're not missing much on the magpul grip screw.
they have a damn slotted screw head

I actually re-used the included tooth washer on the new Home Depot edition AR grip bolt. The included S&J is also a slotted head. The 7/16 hex head was a pleasure to install by comparison.

Emailed S&J and Simon says he'll send a set of pins Tuesday morning. Can't help but be impressed by a company who answers emails on Sunday evening of a long weekend.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade. But there's something to be said about buying an LPK from a reputable manufacturer...

You're not wrong. There's also something to be said for giving a little guy a chance as they all had to start from nothing somewhere along the way. I contacted them, the issue was explained to me, and it'll be sorted out. There isn't a single manufacturer who hasn't/doesn't make mistakes. At least with a manufacturer who's in the same area code as me I know the hassles of replacement parts are going to be fairly minimal. As of right now the only parts going into my gun that aren't of Canadian origin, Ontario to be more specific, are my Raptor charging handle, and the Magpul stock and grip. Maybe the chance of extra hassles makes it not worth it for other people, and that's fair, but I like the idea of supporting Canadian manufacturers, and in turn their employees when I have the ability to.

I get your sentiment about wanting to support Canadian companies. However, I also like the peace of mind knowing that if I build with an outstanding LPK like DD for example, it's going to install flawlessly when paired with a good milspec lower. I've built dozens of AR's, and I stick with a formula that works when it comes to procuring components. At the end of the day the gun has to be able to serve a purpose, starting off with out of spec cheap parts is not going to manifest itself into being a gun I could stake my life on. This is the exact reason I avoid a lot of the riff raff, Canadian or not.
