that was the first 22 cal rifle that i got 60 years ago ...i prefer the model 39 it is shorter and lighter does the same thing .if you are going to blue the barrel i hope you don't use BIRCHWOOD PERMA-BLUE waste of time and money...i found a new product [wwwbluewonder.us ] this stuff does a fantastic blue job ..yes they ship to countries like CANADA ..
Perma blue is good for small parts and that's about it. I never had much luck with it with. The options I have available are a blackening solution I got from Caswell Canada or I can use an express blue I got from PJ's products. One thing I'll have to do first it's make sure the mechanics are in order.
Nice! I just picked one of these up last week, I smoothed out the action a lot by sanding smooth the underside of the bolt where the trigger rides. If yours has rough machining marks like mine did, it'll make a world of difference!
Got a chance to test it today. Shoots really well. I was shooting crap ammo and managed to hit 6" steel at 50 yards. Pretty good for my eyes and iron sights. Trigger is really nice too. The only thing I don't like is that there is quite a bit of play side to side. I'll have to look into tightening that up, but other than that it's great. It shoots, extracts and it's cheap. Whats not to love!
Takes me back to Maple Creek Saskatchewan in the 60's when we visited a farm up on the 'bench' and I was introduced to gophers .Every barn had a Cooey hanging on a nail and there was one behind the door in the 'mud room' .
I cleaned one up and refinished the stock, came up nice- that's about all I would do to one
Good price for a good rifle! Nothing like a good old Cooey to make Canada feel like home. My first rifle was a brand new 39 my Dad bought for me on our way out of town to go "look for chicken". We made a deadly pair back then. Dad with his old 12 ga. Tobin and me with my trusty Cooey. Almost 60 years ago, circa 1959. I still have his Tobin. The Cooey was stolen back in the 60's. I have two newer 39's now.
I have no idea when that was made. Hell, the only thing that's on it is Cooey 22cal Model 75. Doesn't even say where it's made! If it weren't for a scratch near the muzzle, I'd be tempted to leave the barrel/receiver brown. It took a long time to get that patina and it looks pretty cool to me.
