US M14 Parts Kits

The cut up receiver is just a nice paper weight, what you would do is get yourself a Norinco, Dominion Arms, Polytech, Springfield Armory Inc, LRB, Rockola, etc etc, commercial made receiver and then assemble the rest of the parts to that.

Thanks, and it looks like the overall length etc would mean it would be a non-restricted?
 
So would these kits fit onto one of the stripped m1 garand receivers that a lot of us bought at a bargin or are they completely different than the norc 305 ones?

Mostly no. The two designs are decades apart, use different cartridges and feed systems, and only have a few common parts despite earnest intentions to share from one family to another.

There is a mod that can be done to M1 Garand receivers, that will basically turn it into a BM59 clone, but that requires a lot of time and machining, best bet is to just by an m305 or M1A receiver and, then build a proper garand out of the garand receiver.

I had actually begun this process,and after consulting with the Lab,was promptly told that even though it was a garand receiver,using m14's parts,because the end result was a BM59 in all but name,it would be a Prohibted firearm.

Shame because I REALLY want a bm59 clone.

Fair enough, these kits will be awesome as is, thanks for bringing em in. I must now begin to hunt for a donor m1A or norc receiver.

Just by the nature of your statement, "a BM59 clone", you ought to have known it would be prohib.
You guys DO realize that the BM59 was a full auto rifle right from the get-go, right?

Of course, if you try any mod "that will basically turn it into a BM59 clone" you are for sure going to be making a prohib item.
You had to contact the lab to find that out ??

You have been mentioning modifying an M1 Garand receiver to convert it to a BM59 (which infers full auto). What were you thinking?
Did you honestly think their answer would be any different? ;-D
Maybe you were asking the wrong questions to whoever you spoke to at the lab. Certainly, referring to a BM59 as your end goal is your main big mistake, needless to say.

FYI, There WERE semi-auto only Beretta models made that were/are perfectly legal. Do a bit of research to look them up before you go asking the lab again. Remember that the prohib order is targeting the full-auto aspect of the BM59. Stay away from that and there ought to be no problem.

If you're simply taking about adding miscellaneous stocks, barrels or anything else from a semi-auto only M14 / M1A or M305, there's nothing wrong with that.
There is also nothing on the books against any kind of buttstock, as long as you keep the barrel and OAL within the unrestricted limits. Buttstocks in and of themselves are not controlled items.
Also, having the ability to use an M14 box magazine, in semi-auto only mode, is also not prohib. It may ruin the Garand's capacity exemption for its 8-shot stripper clips, but it is not prohib.
And, if you stay within the unrestricted barrel and OAL length, you can put any buttstock on a Garand or an M305 that you want.
I was advised quite a while ago by a senior person at the lab myself, but I did my homework and asked the right questions. and avoided the wrong references. Our conversation surprisingly included some tips I got for working on the Garand, and ended on good terms, with best wishes from the person on my project. ;-)

I can assure you,nowhere did I say in my call to the lab did I even mention the BM59.or full auto,or anything of the sort.

What I did say when I contacted them,was I was modifying a garand to use m14 mag and converting to .308.

The only reason I had contacted the lab was because of the Barrel length I had(16.5"...got it for a good deal so that was my option) .i was told by the CFC that any form of garand conversion to use a detachable box mag would be a BM59....his words,not mine.

the "heel" of the m14 receiver IS the SERIAL NUMBERED part, and that's what defines it as the prohibited part-

Agreed.
Simply having the ability to use an M14 box mag or not, should not be the basis of a prohib status on it, and I don't believe it is. I think MJS was given a bum steer IMHO.
