Hey guys just wondering what do you prefer to use on the hinge of a over under shotgun ? Oil or grease I have a nice over under and want it to stay tight. I usually take it apart and just give it a wipe with a oily rag. I just add a little oil to the hinge area not to much because I do not want it to run into the wood.

What do you use and have you ever had an over under become sloppy from lack of lubricant and over use. I would like to avoid this if possible.

I just use a little oil. In other words, a little oil goes a long ways. If you have oil 'running' down, you are using way too much.

Some guys at our club use graphite powder but no idea how well it works. I put light grease on mine: just a dab every second or third use (after wiping off the old stuff of course).

I use grease. I clean it off after each use and reapply a fresh coat to prevent it causing wear from picking up powder residues, dust etc.. I used to use oil but once I switched to grease liked it much better. Remington gun grease was awesome but I haven't seen any around for some time.

Frank If your looking for a awesome synthetic grease try Mil-Comm TW25B it's hard to find in Canada and pricey (though if I had your money I'd burn mine and spend all yours! :) ), I run it in my Citori. ;)

I use Quantum Hot Sauce Fishing Reel Grease. It isn't affected by heat and sticks where you put it. A little goes a long way and it seems to leave a bit of residual lubrication even after being wiped off. The tube it comes in is pretty handy as well. You can stick it into a compartment of a hard travel case or in a slit cut in the case foam lining.
