M305 stiff trigger

Hello All,
I have a small problem, my trigger gets very stiff when put back in my rifle. It is quite crisp and I can fell the 2 stages clean when dry fired outside the rifle. Once put in there, not only it gets harder to pull but I feel a second resistance point in the first stage.

any help?

Does the trigger pack drop in or does it take some force to seat it in the rifle?

What stock is it in? Chinese plastic/wood, USGI fiberglass/wood, or "other"?

Take the rifle out of the stock, clip on the trigger group to the upper (with-out the stock in the way), does the issue persist?

Hello John,
I assembled the rifle outside the stock and the trigger works fine. Just in case, I dissembled and cleaned the trigger, re-lubed the pins and contact surfaces. I am suspecting the trigger might be grinding against the assembly just at the exit hole, it seems it s not centered perfectly and once sited in the stock it just makes it worst.

It didn't feel like that at the range, it's only once I got home and removed the trigger group for inspection and put it back in, that i noticed the trigger wasn't smooth anymore. The rifle has 150 rounds through it, fired flawlessly, ~3MOA. I noticed some small bits of copper inside the stock and on the bolt.

Sounds like you have 2 choices.....

Replace the stock with another option (Chassis, USGI, etc)

or;

Grab a file and relieve the stock where its causing the unwanted contact.

I quite often find the USGI fiberglass stocks fit tight around the trigger pack (when installing Chinese triggers into Chinese rifles), they take a lot of force to insert. They however do not cause the trigger to feel any different even though the fitment is pretty tight.

"Are you certain the trigger group was reassembled correctly?"

I just had a look at it, I didn't disassemble anything, simply dry fired it a few times. I am trying to remember if it was like that out of the box after the initial cleanup and if maybe firing the rifle a few times made it better, as if the recoil released some stress in the stock/trigger group.

Any gunsmiths for the m14 in the Ottawa region?

A new M305 needs to be fired a couple hundred times to "break in" things. :p

How hard is your trigger group to lock in to the stock? how much force does the trigger guard require?

Not excessively hard I would say; first the assembly slides in and stops about 1/4" from fully in, I then need to use both thumbs, pushing close to the mag release till it sits all the way. Then the trigger guard goes with the palm of one hand, holding the rifle with my other hand, no need to leverage or push against a hard surface.

I read that it s normal to gain ~0.5lbs on the trigger when seated in the stock, but what I don t like is the grinding and none uniform tension in mine, while super smooth outside the stock...
