I've been doing a lot of thinking and I'd like to sell off a bunch and buy a semi custom rimfire. I'd like something nice. Possibly a new Zealand hardwood stock. Either way lots of figure and possibly case coloring of the action and metal parts. Most importantly chambered for 17 mach 2. So far all I can come up with is Cooper. Are there any others?

Fortner action
20 inch semi bull barrel
Thumb hole semi bench stock with a Anschutz rail and holders in the stock for clips like the biathlon stock.

Honestly, sounds exactly like a Cooper. Clay @ Prophet River might be the best guy to talk to. Between his relationship with Cooper, selling highly-figured stock blanks, and his import service, he may have a few ideas for you. There are CZ452s in 17M2 in the US, even some nice specimens in new/like new condition that could be a starting point. (having Clay import) There are people who do stock duplicating in Canada, gun metal finishing, etc. Hard to say how much LESS than a Cooper that might end-up costing.

I'm looking at getting a much more basic rifle idea put together here in 20-223 (20 "Practical") and nobody in Ontario seems interested in the work. Unlike you, I'm content with an ugly Savage accustock, Savage action, flat black metal, and as good a barrel as I can afford. :)

That's my usual for center fire. I'm a proud savage owner. Even a Stevens with that grey thing they call a stock. However I love small game hunting and love rimfires so I want something nice. It won't be right away as I have to sell a lot. I have a few projects on the go right now as well

If you desire New Zealand hardwood with plenty of figure.

Was there an extra cost to use a blank instead of their wood from Cooper? It will be awhile before I can order it yet. I have to sell some things first and get back on my feet. Literally. I now might need surgery on my tendon

Talk to Clay and get it ordered as soon as you're able. He is excellent to deal with and will get the ball rolling. You will pay a deposit on the rifle, and the process will be started...which is important because it takes some time. My Cooper was ordered in August 2015, and I'm still waiting for it to be finished. Wood substitution costs are minimal to negligible, I'd contact Prophet River to get the answer to your question.

The case colouring is a though one... Otherwise you could get a Anschutz 17xx barrel action in 17 Mach2 and have it stocked to your liking...

Or if you want to go up in customization, get a 10x / 2500XR / Baity / Hall repeater action... then chose your barrel/trigger/stock  ...
