Do you need to limit your mag tube for hunting grouse in BC?

I've hunted several times in Cuba ... where no plug is required and lead shot is legal, including for waterfowl. They have liberal limits on both waterfowl and game birds, migratory and non-migratory. Trust me, there is no great advantage of going "unplugged" ... if anything, you're success rate may drop.

When younger, a "limit" shoot seemed all important, and I took many, both on waterfowl and upland birds. Lately, not so. My own practice tends to limit me to a brace of grouse, and I rarely take more ... even though I could and can. Even years ago, I would shoot the covey rise ( quail & huns) and not try to follow-up on the singles. On waterfowl, I've pretty much adopted the practice of shooting drakes only, as far as I can identify them, leaving the hens. Those seeking to "limit out" never discover my favourite coverts, and Im loathe to go with them anywhere else. Each needs to develop their own conservation ethic.

Only thing I've hunted in Cuba were women. But on a serious note, I didnt know you could hunt Cuba. I figured the strict government regime would prevent private ownership of firearms. Interesting to know this. How do you go about taking a hunting trip to Cuba?

I don't think a guy is handicap at all using a single shot shotgun in fact a cheap single shot shotgun is pretty light in the hand which at the end of the day means hiking more miles in Comfort
It's pretty rare to shoot a entire Roost ther is usually a couple that get away

Yup, that's why I pack my H&R Tamer.

I can't believe how many people don't know they need to plug their shotgun for grouse. Its not like it's hidden, its on page 16, in a big green box titled "Legal Hunting Methods"... if you miss that, you are not doing a very good job of reading the darn regs...

I guess that F&W needs to start writing more tickets, so that people start paying attention to the regulations.

I called F&W and ask and thay did not know either
I don't ask legal advice on CGN so I called F&W and ask them in this case your right and I'm mistaken
It would probably be a good thing for F&W to read there own regulations that thay are supposed to be enforcing

Does front counter have anything to with hunting regulations though (seriously, i have no idea?)? From a quick look at their site they are all about natural resources, and assisting businesses with permits and applications and the like, i don't see anything about inquiries into hunting regs.

It's One of those dumb decisions on the part of the BC Government in a piss poor attempt to save money
call the number provided in the regulations and it is put through to front counter BC ( forestry ) don't know the exact reason why I just know its goofy

Hard to call them when you work gravyards and your breakfast is at 8PM and dinner is at 7AM ;) Luckly CGN is 24/7.

Thanks for all the responses!

I think it becomes harder to hunt with single shot or small calibers when you know their are bears all over the area, Walking over bear #### every 5 min doesn't inspire confidence in a single shot .22 or 20 gauge.

... How do you go about taking a hunting trip to Cuba?

Don't believe all the B.S. the U.S. would have you believe about Cuba.

Private gun ownership is not prohibited, nor is hunting ... but their is very little local pressure.

The last hunting & fishing I did was booked through an outfitter here (no longer in business) and through "Ecotour", a Cuban company/subsidiary I believe was the commercial arm of their Ministerio de Flora y Fauna ( like our Ministry of Natural Resources) They have a very well developed conservation ethic with fish & game seasons, bag limits, etc. Primarily duck, dove, snipe & waterfowl. Largemouth bass inshore (several lakes & big reservoirs) and great bonefish, permit and tarpon fishing offshore. There is often advertising in the classifieds of the Ontario OutofDoors magazine.

Daily limit is 10 where I hunt and possession is 30. I'm slightly amused by this leave some to breed talk, it's noble but a tad misguided, if there's five in front of you that's not the forest's population you're looking at. The limit of 10/30 was set for a reason and if you're inside that I'm not about to judge your character by how many birds you leave to tell the story from a group. If you're hunting legally you're good with me.

This is what the armchair biologists won't accept. Might be different if you are the game manager on a private estate, but in the wild...Just adhere to the game limits

How would you know ther breeding do they smell a little bit FISHY after porking each other or do they walk funny afterwards
Wen I see two grouse laying together on their backs feathers a mess and breathing heavy smoking cigarette I promise I won't shoot them because I know they were just bumped uglies Haahaaa
I'm guessing ruffled grouse like it rough and are into whips and chains Lol sorry I couldn't help my salf
