Google has not been my friend, in trying to identify a particular rifle. Rifle was the principal longarm used by Pavlos Melas, a fallen hero of modern Greek history. Melas fought in the Greek Struggle for Macedonia and was ambushed and killed by the Ottomans in 1904, this is about the only information I could surmise regarding the rifles age, it was made prior to 1904. Some time ago, I remember reading a story that mentioned he used a Spanish carbine, or maybe a Mauser carbine made for Spain, nothing for sure however. I've cropped the only known picture of Melas with the rifle below, and hope that someone has a good idea of the model. Thanks
