I hiked in a few miles. Was bugling all the way in, high pitched and every 15 mins or so. The would switch up to a cow call to answer after moving another 200 or so yards. I called this guy in to 7 yard and he came in so hot I had to stand and say stop. He didn't notice me until I stood up. Used ("the lowly") 7-08 to take him down. A Barnes LRX 145 at 2710fps was more then adequate to put a stop to it. I didn't realize how well he was hit, due to the speed of the action, I made a follow up shot as well. The bullet performance was perfect, the trip although quick, was a once in a lifetime situation(or so I'm told) and am very happy with my first elk.

That's a damn nice elk. Good shooting too. I see one entry wound in the brisket, guessing that was your first shot. Smart move putting another shot into him before he could get into some alder-choked hellhole to die.

Nice score!

Ive only shot deer and its been in november, so Im wondering how long do you have in this warm temperature to get that meat cut up and in a cooler?

I'm not sure exactly. I had him cleaned within a few hours, in a cooler in 7 hours. I wouldn't be too concerned a little longer personally.

Nice elk congratulations
I'm still hoping to get my first elk not gonna be easy swing it this year with work
Working on a horizontal directional drill next week starting in Edmonton working to Fox Creek but who knows maybe I'll get lucky along the way if not there's always Christmas break and I won't be far from Grand Prairie

I threw a ball in the big milk jug at the theme park when I first got there as a teenager once. Carried a 6 ft 30lb stuff shark around for the whole day. After that I learned to leaves games till the end in case I won a prize..

Congratulations on your prize !
