What are people's thoughts on buying pure lead for either bullets or investment purposes?

Yes I realize for bullets you need add to it but curious if price is right is worth buying a ridiculous amount of lead right now while price and regulations are not a problem.

If Hiliary wins the Election in the USA do you see lead taking a massive jump?

Just like hear people's thoughts and ideas....

Thinking about making a significant purchase of lead but not sure if good idea or not....

I think it's a pretty good investment, sure beats parking your money on a bank savings account.

Just started stashing away lead and wheel weights that I will melt into ingots in the near future.
Some stuff might become a lot harder to find in the future (and thus likely way more expensive)
like lead wheel weights because of the shift to zinc and steel etc. and linotype/monotype is going
extinct with modern printing methods.

My goal is to have enough lead in ingots in stock to last me many years.

People thought when Doe run shut down it would be catastrophic for
our world, it had zero affect. 2 yrs ago i paid 1.40 a lb todays its 1.25
I once thought the same as you, but not anymore.
If Hillary gets elected we'll have bigger problems than lead

Lead is a commodity, it's price fluctuates according to supply and demand. Contrary to what others have told you, it may well go down.

All commodity metals are low right now. If the world economy bounces back in the customary fashion lead can be expected to rise with the other commodity materials. So investing in lead stands a good chance of making you some money, some day.

It is important to recognize that munitions is not the predominant use of lead, so Hilary getting elected or not getting elected is going to have exactly zero effect on the price of lead. The trend towards electric cars that use lithium ion batteries, on the other hand, could drive prices down to levels not seen in a century.

Do not buy pure lead unless you shoot black powder
for everthing else you want lead with tin and anthtimony all ready in it

bullets make up a small portion of the total market for lead; Lead pricing depends more on the economy and demand for commodities for industrial use. Ammo and reloading component prices soared but we didn't see a major upswing in lead prices when BO was elected, and I doubt Hillary will be different. But what the heck - if you can get lead and have a place to store it then stockpiling some isn't a bad idea. I do. :)

Buying lead for investment purposes isnt worth the time or money. It's value has fluctuated up and down $0.30 over the past 5 years. So unless you're looking at buying 30,000 lbs of it, you wont see much of a return.

Wholesalers are shipping tons of processed into pigs lead to China, at least that's what they do here in Vancouver. Last batch of wheel weights I found had less than half in lead, rest were zinc or iron.
So yeah, get as much lead as you can if you're serious about casting. Three tons of ingots is not much, volume wise. Maybe as big as a coffee table.

Lead is always good to have around; however, expecting it to increase in price during our lifetime is probably going to leave you disappointed.

Tin, silver and antimony would make better investment metals as they are in shorter supply. Do keep them separated tho, except for what you are planning to cast as bullets. industrial users of the metals will want them uncontaminated.

The best way to store w-w i found is in the milk crates.
I can fit 24 pc of 3lbs bricks in one layer, seven of those fit flush with the top for total of 504lbs.
I still have three of those that will last me for the long, long time.
Investment in lead?
Makes sense b/c most of zinc/lead mines in US are closed due to EPA strict regulations and lead prices being depressed now won't go any lower IMHO.

I store my ingots in milsurp ammo crates. They're really quite nice for it as they have two heavy handles built in and aren't too heavy to move if you have to. They also stack well...

I too was recently disappointed with how much steel and zinc were in this years "harvest" of ww lead. It's not really worth casting unless your getting COWW for hardening for cheap or free. Even raw lead is too expensive for me to cast for pistol compared to the price of DRG brand lead bullets.
