Only really shoot .22/.22 short and 380 in pistols... yes I have shot other caliber guns but I do not own one.

Pretty simple question, I can start into 9mm with either of these... which do you recommend or what do you recommend other than these. Ironically no, I have not shot these... shot Glock, Beretta and such but not these guys as perhaps they rare in an odd way. Not rare to us, but perhaps rare to the guys who dont get into CGN lol.

Cheers.

You can get a used Girsan (Beretta 92 copy) for ~$450. They're pretty sweet guns esp for the price. MUCH better than any Norinco I've had. Don't go too cheap on a 9mm get something you'll want to keep and learn with.

You can find a CZ in the $500 price range.

I have shot both the star and Zastava and they are garbage. I would pick norinco above those two manufactures.

Maybe they're talking about the Norc NZ85 ?
If not , I'd like to know where the cheap CZ's are , because I want one .

I had a Zastava , it was okay for the price and what it was , a 9mm tork with a longer grip , all steel , single stack mag .
Look at some of the Norinco offering , they'll be close to that price range .

Yeah I was looking at those... sometimes I'm cheap... sometime not and I buy a $1000 firearm for some reason... I guess this time I felt like being cheap. So those Girsan pistols are clearly better?

As for Norinco I avoid them unless I see and try the firearm in question. They occasionally make something good, usually not. My M93 (Woodsman clone) for $190 was a good buy but that is about it.

I’ve had a Star B Modelo Super from Tradex for approximately 6 months. The pistol looks nice and works quite well although I’ve had a few hiccups depending on the ammo. However, the major problem with mine is a very heavy trigger pull around 9lbs. The pistol has an inherent “military” accuracy that is worsened by the heavy pull. All I can get at 20 yards is 8-9” grouping and sometimes more than that. With tax you would pay around $340 for the Star. It’s better to save that money for something better. I don’t know the Zastava 9mm but I wouldn’t expect anything better than the Star. Eventually, I decided to keep the Star until its timely death but to improve my feelings I purchased a slightly used (100 shots) Walther PPX range kit which was on sale at Tenda for $419. It’s ten times better than the Star and not so much more expensive.

Check out my other thread. Ive had several Norincos two NP-34, NP-58 couple 1911'a as well as M93 and Girsan feels like twice the gun MUCH better quality. Looks like old stock is drying up and new prices are higher (understandably) but a used one will be about $100 more (for now) than a Norinco but they're not even close in quality, fit and finish.

Then you just answered your own question :p don't buy a Star or Zastava.

Walther p1 is sub $500 and a solid gun

Walther P1 is another surplus gun...a lot has changes since. They're pretty meh unless you like old school looks/designs. Beretta 92 action has evolved from it tho, and that brings be to.... Grrrr son!

I have a norinco 9mm. It's been excellent. Surprisingly well fitted and accurate. They're $399 brand new. For some reason I've been looking at the sd9ve for around $420. I read they're good except the trigger pull is heavy

I bought one and put about 500 rounds through it and the trigger never did get much better so I got one of the Apex kits (tricky part is finding them in Canada) and it is WAY better now. About 6 lb pull and not as gritty.

Track the EE early in the morning. I got one not long ago, virtually new for $500 shipped to me. Deals come up if you are patient. I just picked up a Girsan and am very impressed. Fit and finish are excellent. They can be had for under $500 on the EE. Worth it in my opinion.

Take Care
