Lower-ish end 9mm... Zastava vs. Star Model B?

I have a Star model BM (12.6), and it is well made, well fit, and shoots like a dream.. very accurate. It was new in cosmoline 25 years ago when I bought it for $249. Then I had it satin chrome finished.. Best of all it won't likely melt or explode from a hot load which I have had some trouble with in modern handguns (never shoot someone else's reloads!)

It is a fave of mine, and if we did have CCW it would be a perfect candidate IMHO

can't speak to the used Star B, but compared to a tokarev clone I would likely sink my cash in the Star. Better design in my mind.

SD9VE (terrible trigger though) goes bang every time.
Sig Pro 9mm, it's the super reliable polymer Sig pistol that nobody talks about (poor man's 226)
Sig P250
Ruger SR9
Girsan 92 copy
Used or surplus Beretta 92

Although I've never held or shot a Star Model B, I've been in Trade-Ex's thread and it looks like most of the feedback is positive... You paint yourself in a corner when you want a cheap gun that doesn't have any issues. If I had to pickup a $500 or less pistol and have no issues, it would be my Sig Pro again, in a heartbeat. Doubt you can find one for that price anymore though. Think they were $479 a while back and I picked mine up on the EE, unfired from a guy who had buyers remorse.

No modern pistol "Glock" has ever exploded because of +p ammo. Any gun will explode from bad reloads.

Google Portland Police and their history with the early generations of the Glock 40cal. There were real issues with the Gen 1 which Glock never admitted to but did correct with subsequent generations and they did explode or as near a version as blowing the gun apart can be.

I have the Tok and the StarB. Nice to play with but not for regular shooters. The Star shoots well but parts are very hard to come by, so I would be afraid for break an extractor or something.

The all steel Norcs in 9mm are very good. The CZ clone shoots as well as the real deal. I have both.

Ganderite brings up a good point. While clones of various models might use parts from the original manufacturers this is not true with off beat designs. You might buy a 9MM blaster on the cheap only to find out you can;t get mags for it or as he points out the extractor breaks and no one carries parts. The gun no matter the make at that point becomes a very expensive poorly designed boat anchor. Mags can become an issue if you need four and the gun comes with two.

get a CZ 75if you can get the money together, after countless searches on here when i got my rpal, and lots of questions being asked and pistols being held in stores, i picked up a used CZ75 B and i`m glad i did, it is by far my favourite semi auto pistol that ive owned so far, and my oldest daughter is wanting to try it as well, so winner winner chicken dinner in my books .lol

at 375 new and around 300 used when they come up"rare" you can have a few np22 for parts source and frankly they are a rock
never heard of anything breaking on them and with 2 ya have 4 mags and your still much less than most for 1
now dont get me wrong lots of nice 9's out there i also have a beretta 92fs inox which is around 1100 new but what ya wanna spend is the thing
sometimes ya just have to have it and that was me with the beretta but if im honest that np22 feels just as good in the hand to me
just isnt the prom queen my inox is to me

As someone who tried and owned a 'few' different guns from surplus to more higher end ones I can say that Norinco's are mediocre at best. If that's all you have they work for time being but soon you'll want better and why dont you deserve a better gun? :D It's like buying a mountain bike; sure you can go to Walmart and get something for $100-200, but if you're actually gonna use it, spending $500+ will get you something much more capable and better designed and better quality.
