Been shooting 9mm minor for awhile now and wondering about switching up to 9mm major. Anyone have a gun recommendation that they have personal experience with? From what I have seen at a few matches, you can spend a 2-3 thousand on a gun...or 6-8 thou...is it necessary, ( or just prudent ) to spend the BIG bucks to 'enjoy' 9mm major? I also load 9mm for revolver so would like to stick with the one calibre if possible.

Cheers,
Jim

Which Division are you interested in? Production is Minor only and you need a minimum of .40 to make Major in Standard.

If you are interested in going to 9mm major in open class, I would recommend the CZ Czechmate. This is the popular choice in competitions for this round, and is reasonably priced for an open classed race gun.

Actually, I would never recommend CZ checkmate in major it will not last for example like STI Trubor which is a great gun for the money, however if you have lots of $$$ than get one custom built or go with SVI (Infinity)

Thanks guys, open would of course be my only choice for 9mm major, it was the choice of a reasonably priced gun that I was wondering about...having been involved in the scoring on a few matches, it occurred to me that one way to help me get away from my old 'bullseye' tendencies and 'drive quickly' to the next target, would be to reduce the penalty for moving past the 'C'...just get it on paper. Steel isn't as much of an issue, no scoring zones to worry about. Plus with a PF of 165 the steel tends to topple fairly regularly :).

I've read some stories about people using 'max pressure' 9mm in inappropriate guns and just wanted to get some feedback on an appropriate choice, without just throwing $$ at it.

Hey Jim.

Like Josko says, if you're going Open - you'll have to spend a little.
Anyone I've seen get a cheap Open solution spends a lot of time getting it fixed and never fixes it completely.

Buy once, cry once - as the saying goes.

We sell at least twelve 9mm major guns for every one 38 super in Tanfoglio and STI. 9mm major is the preference these days and thanks to the availability of good powders like Vhitivouri; 9mm major pressures aren't that high and a decent race gun should last a good while.
